We have block scheduling here. Classes are one and a half hours, with four periods in a day. It's not bad really, and many school districts around here do it. It's possible because it's like having two regular class periods because there is twice as much time, so it's possible to fit a year's worth of a subject in a semester.

Recently my former middle school switched to block scheduling/got rid of all the bells. The kids were confused for a while and often late for classes. My school district is thinking about moving block scheduling up to the high school also. However, I we have double period sciences every other day already, and I can barely stand the 80 minute period. I don't know how I would do it all day.

my school's the only that does it in the district. block scheduling helped me pile on a bunch of APs esp. in soph year when most people would be taking Honors.

it's actually quite comfortable once you get used to it - it means less bell schedules to memorize.

Trust me, I had completely identical problem. Three weeks -- and you're fine.

Less bell schedule to memorize? I still have no clue what mine are. I generally go with "don't dawdle in the hall" for getting to class on time.

Long class periods were hard at first, but I actually got used to them in about a month, I think. My attention span is pretty short. I can concentrate on things if they're interesting (like movies) or if I really need to (AP tests). Of course, I've still been thoroughly amused by the fact that there were 2 different colors of white paint on the wall during one AP test. That wasted just a few minutes to say the least...

In general though, my teachers do a fine job of keeping us occupied/ letting us occupy ourselves, but they could be a bit lenient compared to other teachers.

we have year-long block schedualing... 4 classes a day for 90 minutes, each class every other day all year (excpet electives)... we also opperate on the trimester system (why? i have no idea!), so you have a single term elective every other day for a third of the year. i love the block system and dont mind the long classes at all, it makes it much easier to get in to the class!! free mods are extremely uncommon... i think last year 2 out of 180 had them, although we are affliated with a college and if decide to take a course there and only have it say mon, wed, fri, then tues and thurs you have a free mod b/c if the block schedualing...

Block scheduling is a pretty good thing. I should know, my school has it. However, we have a modified version. We have a weird "skinny" system. Basically, all 4 blocks are broken into 2 "skinnies" or "sub blocks" or "periods" for year-long courses (such as AP courses). This is what a schedule could look like at my school:

First Semester:
1st Block, periods I & II- Geometry
2nd Block, period III-AP Lit
2nd Block, period IV-AP US History
3rd Block, period V- AP Microecon
3rd Block, period VI- Ap Gov
4th Block, periods VII & VIII-Chemistry

Second Semester:
1st Block, periods I & II-Spanish II
2nd Block, period III-AP Lit
2nd Block, period IV- AP US History
3rd Block, period V-AP Macroecon
3rd Block, period VI-US Gov
4th Block, periods VII and VIII- Random Elective

I like being able to stay in courses for only half a year, while having certain courses year long. It's like having your cake, and eating it too :-D

^^ Wov, this is complicated.

I've gone to schools with block scheduling and without, and I much prefer ones with block scheduling. There's more time to do homework.

I'm currently attending a school that has a schedule with both block scheduling and non-block scheduling, so it's a good compromise for students that favor one or the other.

Day 1: 1234567
Day 2: 1234567
Day 3: 1234567
Day 4: 1234
Day 5: 567

The periods do rotate weekly on a three-week rotation schedule, so in my opinion, it's not that bad.

Do you guys get out early on Fridays then? Lucky.

Yeah, we get out early on Fridays. 1:25 PM. It's not as early as some other schools nearby, which get out at 12:30 PM.

8 classes all year, classes 1-4 day A, classes 5-8 day B.

Day pattern: A,B,A,B,A,B,A,B,A,B...
