looks intersting, i've bookmarked it. thanks for sharing your experiences :)

thanks, happy you liked it, keep reading!

i'm reading too, it's very good.

I like your blog but was just curious about something you posted.

You wrote "MCAT Score between 3 and 24: Only by some miracle can you get in, unless you're Black (not African), Hispanic, Asian American, etc."

I thought Asian-Americans had a disadvantage when applying to medical schools, meaning Asian-Americans have a smaller chance of acceptance. It would be nice if I were to be wrong.

TSC, you're not wrong.

AAMC records indicate that Asian Americans have the highest avg. GPA and MCAT scores among admitted applicants, although they don't beat white candidates by very much. The gap to Hispanics is about 5 index points, and the gap to black candidates - it's unclear to me whether African candidates are included in that, but they most certainly are for undergrad - is another ~5 points.

AAMC data indicates the average index for Matriculants:

Asian: 67.7
Black: 58.8
Hispanic: 62.0
White: 67.5

Source: My own calculations based on http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2005/mcatgparaceeth.htm

Hispanic averages were weighted and combined. "Index" = 10*GPA + MCAT

The gap widens slightly (.5 index points) when BCPM GPA is used instead of total GPA.

thanks for the reply. I actually heard that from someone else that did not even read the post. So I will correct myself on that one.

oh and only few schools, if any, consider Africans minority. I called a bunch of them and they said I might as well be a caucasian for admission purposes.
