Blogs as ECs

As a rising senior, I'm growing concerned about my extracurriculars, and I recently started to wonder about whether my blogging is a valid EC. I've maintained blogs containing guides, links, study tips, and a few other things for a few years, and I've noticed some Chances threads that list the activity lately (for example WhiteFang791 mentions his/her blog, which is presumably Walking With Keynes, in the thread <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/979816-chances-mmss.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/979816-chances-mmss.html</a>). I'm curious as to whether anybody can shed some light on how AdComs view blogging, especially when it's not about a student's life. Is it a strong or weak EC? To what activities is it comparable in terms of remarkability? Will admissions officers actually read student blogs? If you know the answers to this or have any other input, please post your comments.

I can see a blog being a fairly strong EC if it pertains to what you want to study.

I think you should insert the amount of readers/followers of your blog. I can write a blog about my family vacation but will only get 3 readers. It’s about context. How can one tell if a blog is significant or not?

I wouldn’t count on them reading your blog, since it’s essentially a supplemental material, but they may skim a post or two. What would be more relevant, IMO, is the number of unique readers you have daily/monthly/whatever as well as any money you make off of it with ads.

Thank you all for the input. Mine have been moderately successful (up to a few hundred views per day at times), but they’re hosted on ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ and I wouldn’t make much money even if I could monetize them.

glassesarchic: Unless somebody gives me good reasons not to do so, I intend to submit my most recent blog, and possibly a few others, as a supplement to my applications. Do you recommend that I merely print the site’s URL (ismailccsblog.com, for example) and a description or that I select and print a few posts that I feel present the blog in the best light?
