Is this headline indicative of an increasing crime problem on the lehigh campus or is it standard journalistic sensationalism? Not the sort of publicity any college wants to see, but is this a problem that prospects and their parents need to be aware of?

Interesting and scary , I posted that a few days ago.
A friend told me of a similar situation in South Bend with ND students targeted by gang bangers as part of an initiation rite.

My daughter is insisting that on-campus is safe and she continues to walk alone on campus in the evening for meetings and class projects… yet the Lehigh Police advise students not to walk alone at night in recent security bulletins. I understand that my daughter is not able to find a “buddy” to walk with to certain class and club activities at night. How can I advise her to be safe? She said she feels silly calling a security escort to walk on campus at 9pm but these attacks have happened early evening - very late and they are happening on the boundaries of the campus.

The robberies are only happening close to the campus – not on the campus. Most students feel safe because the area where the robberies are occurring is not usually a place where Freshman (and even Sophomores) go. The people who are getting robbed are ones who walk around in known dangerous areas alone at 2 AM.

Thanks Phillipb22! I’ve talked more about the situation with my daughter since she has been home and she confirms what you are saying… she also feels very comfortable with the heavy presence of Lehigh police and I am impressed with how quickly the Bethlehem police react to these situations. BUT for some added peace of mind, I put mase in her Christmas stocking!
