Blue and Gold does not cover summer. There may be other FA available for summer though.

I’m not going to lie.

I think that’s pretty stupid. >:P

@2016candles I had no idea! I already SIRd to UCLA but now I might not even be able to afford going summers, which might make it impossible to finish in 2 years, and I might end up taking out loans for a third year/or summer quarters.

@Cayton I had no idea! I am kind of upset, financially every school but UCLA and UCSB offered enough for me to be able to save some of it for summer tuition I guess. So this makes things a bit more difficult

If you qualify for Blue and Gold, how does it show in your FA package? Is it considered a “grant or scholarship”, or do they just apply it as to reduce tuition some how? My daughter is confused and I have no clue…Thanks

@sockhermom it will show up as UC grant or UC scholarship

I remember this from state school, you’ll absolutely get no financial support during summer. If you do, your options would be very limited. I suggest talking with your counsellor (or whoever knows this kinds of things at ucla) to see if you can take cc classes during the summer and transfer the credits over for UCLA. If possible, I’m definitely thinking of taking one or two summer courses when back at home.

You have until April 30 to apply for FA for summer at UCLA. I don’t know what kind of aid they offer or how generous it is, but you should definitely apply.

@2016candles I looked it up and students with low ECF will get small grants to cover tuition and help with housing. But since my EFC is higher than summer cost of attendance i believe its about $9k(from what I read) than I would probably get loans at best

@jonjon03 I know a few students from UCSB who would come to my cc during summer
I hope I can do the same perhaps with electives to help reach the units needed to graduate on time

@Sonic23 How are you going to take classes at a CC? You will be working on upper division courses when you transfer, not lower division courses that are offered at CC’s

@CollegeDropout1
Some transfers, especially in sciences, aren’t done with their lower devision (especially physics/math/bio classes).

@CollegeDropout1 I still have to look forward to finishing my single lower division chemistry class for some reason.

I also qualify for blue and gold and will be doing summer session 2 at Davis before I transfer there in the fall. According to their “Summer Aid Estimator” they are giving me enough financial aid to cover 8 units (two classes. For this summer they needed my 2012-2013 fafsa so I just had to update my school list on the fafsa site. I’m sure UCLA will do something similar.

i’m worried about blue and gold because I intend to study abroad for a year which would put me at like 3 years. I have an EFC of around 2,000, so I am not sure what kind of aid they’d give me for a third year

@squashbanana, I intend to study abroad too…and on top of that I want to change my major, so this whole Blue & Gold 6 quarter thing worries me.

I have the blue and gold award and applied for 3 summer classes at UCLA, but there was no charge. Anyone else experience this? I went to the MYUCLA page, searched for classes, and enrolled.

I’m looking at my study list for the summer and the three classes are listed on there. Does this mean I’m enrolled?

Maybe it’s a glitch and you won’t have to pay because of it, @BurntCorpse.

@Cayton

Did you apply for summer classes yet?

Never mind. I found out why I’ve been able to enroll in classes and not pay a single cent. There’s a separate area where you pay your summer bills. It’s called, “BruinBill.”

Great, now I owe UCLA 4.2k…I guess that’s what I get for enrolling in 15 units.

Edit: 4.2k, not 5k, but most likely it will be 5k once I factor in gas, textbooks, and some other stuff.
