I recently got accepted to ucsd with a $10,700 university grant. According to my application and the uc website, I am eligible for a blue and gold university grant. Does this mean that they will give me enough money to cover the difference needed to cover the full cost of my tuition and fees? It seems a little too good to be true. Any advice is appreciated

Blue and gold covers tuition and statewide fees - it doesn’t cover any fees that are specific to UCSD, and it doesn’t cover room & board, books, etc. What it guarantees, if you meet the income guidelines, is that your tuition and statewide fees will be covered by some form of grant aid: Pell Grant, Cal Grant, and UCSD grant. So, if you’re eligible for a Pell grant and/or Cal grant, that amount would be subtracted from what the university is required to give you. UCSD is usually pretty generous, though. If you’re low income, chances are that they’ll give you more than what they’re “required” to give you.

Thanks! Do you know when they notify the additional aid? I’m disqualified for cal grants and pell grants I believe :/. I’m just hoping for a little more aid.

Okay, if you already have the award, and it isn’t enough to cover tuition and fees, then you need to contact the UCSD financial aid office and ask them to explain. If you can, call first thing in the morning. Don’t know how busy it gets later in the day, but I’ve had no difficulty getting through when I call between 8 and 8:30 am.
