I just checked my eFan today and it said that im a recipient of the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan. On the website, it said that it would cover all of my systemwide fees but if that is true, how come I'm still required to take out loans? Doesn't it cover everything?
Someone please enlighten me lol

the Blue and gold only covers your tuition…that does not include room and board and books fees and stuff like that! so you’ll still have to pay for those stuff. you dont have to take a loan if your family can afford it…but if u can’t then you’ll have to take loans and such

How’s the workstudy? Do they offer you a position?

work study is something they allow you to do. there’s an entire other process with it. you have to apply get interviewd and such and then you can start working in/out of campus

here’s a link to help you in ucla

Blue and Gold is a pledge from the UCs to cover your system fees. There is no separate funding coming through Blue and Gold; you are just suppose to receive enough financial aid to cover your system fees. You may still need to take loans or work study to cover room and board or books. Generally you can convert subsidized loans to work study and vice versa. Check with the financial aid office for the appropriate forms.

I know this is kinda old but it’s outlined on the UC website what the blue & gold plan covers

What Blue + Gold covers

* Under the plan, your systemwide fees will be fully covered by scholarship or grant money if you are in your first four years at UC (two if you’re a transfer student).
- The plan combines all sources of scholarship and grant awards you receive (federal, state, UC and private) to count toward covering your fees. If, for example, you receive Pell and Cal Grants and private scholarships that don’t fully cover your fees, UC grant money will make up the difference.
- Students with greater financial need can qualify for even more grant support to help defray other educational expenses (like books, housing, transportation, etc.) In fact, UC currently provides grant and scholarship assistance averaging $11,100 per student to more than half of undergraduates.
