Blue Band Drumline

Is anyone in this section an active or former member of the Blue Band? I am about to start my first semester of community college next month, and Penn State is one of my top choices as a transfer institution. During high school, I played cymbals (freshman year), bass drum (junior year), and tenors (senior year). Hopefully, as a junior transfer, I will make either the snare or tenor line. Is there anyone here I can talk to about the Blue Band? I would preferably like to speak to a drumline member since they know all the drumming jargon (paradiddle, traditional grip, etc), but anyone is welcome to talk to me about the Band!

My son will be starting his 4th year with the Blue Band, but he plays trumpet. So can’t really help with specifics.

Maybe you can email the Blue Band and ask if they can put you in touch with one of their drumline members.

Blue Band percussion is one of the most difficult to get in to — more people auditioning, and extremely high standards. Crisp, clean, FAST rudiments with smooth connections is the sound. Grip for the audition is up to you, but use marching weight sticks. Info about auditions and also the new percusssion auditions is at the link. Good luck! If you don’t make BB, you can choose to play with one of the pep bands, I think.
