Hi, I took the December SAT and got a 2030, but I was wondering how well the practice tests relate to actual scores from the real SAT. When I took that, I didn't have any time to prepare for it much, and as a result I didn't do a full practice test; however, last week I got a 2190 on one of the tests, and yesterday I got a 2260. About how close have you been between practice tests and the real thing?

I think it really depends. My son took several bluebook practice tests. He was averaging around 2150. Just got his real scores back today.....1910. He is really disappointed. I read a thread about this and it really varied. Some did better than practice tests. Someone had actually come up with a formula that they claimed could predict your score fairly acurately.

Our experience with the blue book practice tests was disappointing. My son consistently scored 50 points higher on the Math sections and 10-30 points higher on CR than he did in the 1/24 SAT. We are not sure what to make of this until we receive the Q & A report in a month or two.

My range on the only BB practice I took was 2080 to 2360 and I got a 2200 on the 1/24 date...meaning I was right in the middle of the range. No idea if that's typical or not though...

well the blue book is on the easier side, so if you go into the test with just the blue book practice questions in your head, you'll get stumped by the more difficult questions on the actual test.
you should take practice tests from different tests so you can get used to them all.
practice really does make perfect on teh SAT

^^ agree with dazed other than writing, but all of those seem the same to me anyway...

My real SAT math had much harder ?s than any bb practice test, by far

Also, one of by passages in cr seemed esoteric, especially compared to the BB practice ones

yea the writing is kinda like learning what collegeboard wants from you.
and i agree, some math on the january SAT this year actually required some thinking lol

there's also always at least one esoteric passage, but most of the questions following them are easier ones, kinda like line references.

Ds took practice tests in November, December and January leading up to the 1/24 test.

His actual test score, compared to those practice tests, were:

November +50
December -30
January -60

His writing scores always seem the most volatile.

The month before the Jan test during winter break I took all 8 of the practice tests in the blue book. I averaged around a 2250, getting slightly above 2300 on two of them. The Jan test results came back and I was shocked - I was expecting around 2260 because I thought i screwed up on the math but I got a 2350. If you put enough hard work into tests, it will pay off in some way. I thought the real SAT was about the same level or a little harder than the book ones though.

If it's true that BB tests are a little on the easy side, is there another good book to take practice tests from?

My BB scores were actually incredibly close to my January SAT scores. The only difference was that I gave myself 8s on all my practice essays b/c I wasn't really sure how good they were, and got a 12 on the real one, so that changed it a little...

im using the princeton review book right now..justy started
