Blue Devil Day

I'm just wondering if any of you will be at the Blue Devil Day on the 14th? I'll be there. What are you guys planning to see?

I'm going on the 14th too...I plan on seeing everything, and will hopefully have the chance to meet a lot of class of 2010 people.

me too, we should meet up there

I shall be there the 14th as well

I'll be there too.

I'll be there too. i'm going there with a positive outlook, but there are some possibly negative things that I will be on the lookout for:

if there really is an obsession with basketball

if a jock culture really exists

how many asian americans there really are. (according to princeton review, its 13%, according to duke class of 09 profile, it's 21%)

whether the reputation of being a "party schoo" holds (the 14th is gona be a friday, a perfect time to see the truth)

how about you guys?

how about you guys?

there wont be much of a basketball obsession after basketball season

just a thought. im not a student, so maybe im wrong.

well Ill help some since I live next door...

1) as JMAN said you wont see it since the season is over... but I think just the fact that people camp out for over a month to get tickets to the unc game says something... A lot of people are obsessed (in a good way)... but if you arent thats okay
2) Jockish for such a "smart" school maybe...
3) There are a lot of asian kids on campus seriously!
4) WOOOOO!... any college is a party school!

Did anybody get a reply for hosting yet?

I got an email that said they would contact me with more info two days before the Blue Devil Day I signed up for.

Chlor, PR's data is dated. Class of 2008 is 16.5% Asian. The 13% figure might be '07 or '06. I dunno.

Regardless of what the number is, it's still significantly higher than the % of asians in the US population.

Do you think my schedule of events is a little too ambitious?

9:00 AM- 9:30AM Welcome
9:35 - 10:30 AM Biology Department Fair
10:45 - 11:30 Arts and Sciences
11:45 - 12:30 West Campus Tour
12:30 - 1:00 Lunch

2:45- 3:30 Premed Session
3:30 -5:00 Class
5:00- 8:00 East Campus
5:00 - 8:00 Duke Gardens

This is actually my very first college visit, so I don't really know how they work. Also, what should I wear?

I would remove one or two things from your list. Remember that it sometimes takes 5-15 minutes to get between buildings; not everything is in one place.

I think the schedule looks pretty good, really, though going to all of two classes might not be the best thing - give yourself permission to skip out on the back half of one or both to spend more time talking to students or milling around campus.

So its okay to leave classes in the middle or come in the middle? I don't want to be impolite or anything.
Also, how far is it from the Bryan Center to Page?

Yes, it's very okay to leave classes in the middle! Just make sure to sit in the back and not be disruptive as you leave.

The BC to Page is very close; maybe 4 minutes from Griffith to Page if you don't really know where it is.

For everyone wondering about hosts...you probably won't receive your host information until 2 or 3 days before...that's when we get it as well. Just keep checking your email.

Can you cancel your overnight stay somehow. I highly doubt I can get from Hopkins to Duke before midnight. Also, I'll be on the road soon, so I'll probably won't get the email.

Aw-- just a post because I'm getting a little sentimental. I just realized that my own Blue Devil Day was exactly a year ago this Friday. Enjoy it, guys-- I remember mine like it was yesterday. It's insane how quickly a year speeds by when you're at a school you love.
