Blue devil days

I'm a senior from Texas. For Blue Devil Days, does Duke cover any of the costs for flying in? I am getting a trip to one of my other schools (that happens to be a public university that is paying for flight + accomodations for my mother and I)....and I live in Texas, so it's quite an expensive flight (450+) to go there, then find hotel accomodations, etc...and the reason I want to do this is to not only visit the campus but visit the financial aid office to discuss my aid package. I would rather not have to spend all that $$ to travel there, then talk to FA officer, and find out I will get nothing lol.

I would say send the admissions office an email and ask.

Are the rest of you guys from here paying for it on your own?

If your ability to attend depends on a change to your FA award, I suggest you contact the Financial Aid office and have that conversation first, before you spend money on the visit.

No $$ for BDD. We flew up from Texas last year when S was a HS senior. We paid out of own pocket. Incidentally, direct flights from major cities in Texas to Durham are @ $350.

darius, where did you get the flights for 350$? The cheapest I've seen are in the 450-500 range....

Duke has negotiated a deal with US Air way. Maybe you can get a better deal. After login to the student site you click on Blue Devil Day page, and then click on travel assistance for detail.

We fly American Airlines. It's actually under $300 for some round trips to Durham (RDU) this spring, depending on your Texas departure city and the days you are traveling (flying on or over a weekend, etc). Generally, the farther in advance you book, the cheaper.

If you are going for the FA appeal, then dont hope for anything. I was there yesterday and the lady said that she basically could not do anything. They dont match other school's offers and essentially say to you "unless you have demonstrated hardship, we are sorry.."
other than that, the blue devil day was pretty good imo.

Yeah 300 for round trips but they take like 5+ hours lol...not sure if I'd just pay 200$ more for a 2.5 hr less flight...

I'm talking about the direct daily flights. I just checked it yesterday.
