Blue Ribbon?

Does anyone know if Brandeis will be using the Blue Ribbon applications again this year?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I heard they will not be using them again.

I'm not 100% sure -- but I do remember hearing that from a pretty reliable source.

what exactly is this blue ribbon app?
and how does one go about qualifying for it?

thanks.

It's a quick application, with no fee, that is sent to students who have demonstrated interest in Brandeis (visited, called the admissions office, etc.), had good PSATs and/or come from a under-represented geographic area. You don't request one -- one is sent to you by admissions, if they think you qualify. However, with that said, if you really want one, you can try to give admissions a call, and maybe they'll send one your way.

I heard they weren't going to do it anymore. Probably because of the new ED plan.

"Early Decision

NEW EARLY DECISION DEADLINES:
Effective fall, 2006:
ED I: DEADLINE NOVEMBER 15, NOTIFICATION DECEMBER 15
ED II: DEADLINE JANUARY 1, NOTIFICATION FEBRUARY 1

Brandeis now offers two rounds of Early Decision Application."

Blue Ribbon was a ripoff anyway. :p At least for people like me who toured, emailed, and come from an underrepresented area yet still didn't get an application.

Since so many more people are applying there every year, Blue Ribbon doesn't make as much sense as it was a way to get kids to think about applying.

an Associate Director of Admissions for Brandeis at the Masssachusetts Boys State College Fair and asked him about the blue ribbon. He told me that they will, along with the second round of Early Decision, have the blue ribbon app.

Does anyone know what time of year they sent the blue ribbon thing out last year? (Like Nov, Dec?)

A friend of mine at the deis told me that they would be sent out October 14th (he might have meant last year not sure). This information is not from a credible source however so I'm not sure when they are gonna send it out.

umm, the blue ribbon apps are out now (i got an e-mail yesterday) and you can use them for early decision only since it's due Dec. 15th, hope that all of you get one too ! :)

(for anyone that's interested, Illinois Institute of Technology and St. Mary's College in California are also offering a waived app for students who show interest)

I know it's still early, but so is it a bad sign if you don't get a blue ribbon app? Especially when you absolutely need merit aid (i'm guessing blue ribbon applicants are those who they really want, nu?)? please don't tell me they have my PSATs on file. Because those were horrifically bad. Like, 60th percentile.

After attending open house this year, and listening to Admissions officers at Brandeis this year, it seemed to me that there wasn't going to be a blue ribbon app. I wouldn't worry about, people who apply at all times are elligible for merit

I got a Blue Ribbon app...I guess they're using 'em this year!

When did you get it
just wondering

I got a Blue Ribbon app as well!!

i got the blue ribbon app thingy. is that pretty much like a gauranteed in? i'm not exactly familiar w/brandeis since i'm mainly applying to larger (15,000+) universities. i'm only doing brandeis cuz its free.

It's not guaranteed. Blue Ribbon applicants are held to the same standards as regular applicants.

Getting one/not getting one, in the eyes of an admissions officer, doesn't mean anything. If you didn't get one, don't panic.

With the blue ribbon application it is for both RD and ED, right? It was ambiguous in the e-mail and I am not doing ED II.

For RD (non-binding), the Blue Ribbon application is due Dec. 15. You can probably use it for ED II as well, as long as you get it in by the Dec. 15 deadline.

I got my blue ribbon app via email first, and i filled it out and submitted it.
A week later, they mailed another blue ribbon app to me via snailmail.
This was about three weeks ago
