Blue?

this might be kind of stupid, but i was just wondering why it's 'GO BLUE'. haha. i know the mascot is obviously the wolverine, but how did this go blue thing come about? haha.

School colors in a way, tradition in another. It's like trying to figure out why Alabama has an elephant for their mascot and are the Crimson Tide or anything related to Auburn athletics. It's best not to try.

Besides being a very Republican school (elephant, red...well, crimson) (I'm joking, before anyone takes that too seriously), both "Crimson Tide" and "Elephants" are basically results of the media and random things people mentioned that stuck.

As for the rivalry...um, Alabama and Auburn are the two biggest universities in Alabama...everyone in Alabama goes for one of the two teams because nearly every family in the state is associated with one of the universities...it's lots of fun?

Now, try to figure this one out (it's not hard): 1. medieval Scottish yell that scared off intruders >>> 2. Scottish immigration to the South >>> 3. Civil War rebel yell >>> 4. Noises made during the Auburn-Alabama game.

Just in case you're on Jeopardy or something someday.

Christine, is Alabama as backward as everyone thinks? Like, do you know anyone who is married to their own sister?

i have family in alabama. all i know is that the % of asian people there is like less than 1%. i felt so out of place when i visited -_-

No, I don't know anyone who's married to any of their relatives. It's a slightly different culture, but it's not backwards (goodness, people...assumptions and prejudices). I'm Asian, but I feel more comfortable in Alabama than anywhere else in the world...tear home...(I've been really sappy about people leaving lately, deal with it.)

ohh wow. my family lived in huntsville!

Whoa...weirdnessess.

I used to live in Kentucky when I was in middle school. I felt that people down there were more firendly and polite than people in Michigan. I think that might have to do with the cold weather up here? You know, when it's freezing, you just dont wanna be nice to people anymore.

Do people in Alabama have opposable thumbs?

Hah.

Hell of a tangent turn on the topic though.

Anyone care to figure out the deal with the War Eagle and Tiger-dealy at Auburn though?

yeah i used to live in Huntsville too. went to challenger elementary/middle school. played little league baseball at the park near the Greenwalk. Madison Square Mall owns. Space and Rocket Center is a fun place (esp. Space Shot). And Memorial Parkway...man, I still miss those up and down ramps.

cherrybarry: When did you go to Challenger? (I go to Randolph.) And Madison Square Mall no longer owns...it's all about the newly-renovated Parkway Place now.

I lived in Huntsville until 1999. I was at Challenger from 2nd grade to 6th grade. So from '94 to '99. Man, I feel so old...talking about the 90's lol.

Anyway, yeah I still remember Randolph. I was there for a Math comp. once...all those rich private school kids lol. does it have a HS? i thought it was only elem/middle.

I went back to Huntsville a couple years ago and yes, Parkway Place got a huge makeover. No longer the ghetto place it used to be.

d@mn, i really miss the restaurants over there...checkers, arby's, subzone, and that dim sum place by airport road...hmm time to get food

Hmm...do you know Erin White, by any chance? She's in my class, transfered from public school to Randolph in the ninth grade.

Yes, Randolph is K through 12...I mean, where would the rich people send their kids to high school?...and we were probably at the same math competition. Yayness. Actually, I'm positive we were at the same math competition because I've always been a loser.

Checkers, Arby's, and Subzone don't exist outside this area? Wow. And I go to that dim sum place all the time...after 18 years, the owner basically knows our family.

Yea people in the south are more pleasant and friendly in general... I've noticed that every time I've ventured down there... good ol' southern hospitality.

I personally couldn't live in the bible belt myself... but I definitely enjoy visiting

yeah, we were pretty tight with the owner too. idk Erin White...only kid I remember from Randolph was John Gipson...tall dirty blonde kid who was a math genius and won that competition I was at. Do you happen to know him?

John Gipson was Erin White's boyfriend. Small world. Yes, I know him. Check my facebook. Got into Caltech, but decided on Auburn because he's a genius and will end up the same place if he goes to Auburn for undergrad and then Caltech for grad.
