BME Alternative?

Hi I have a dilemna. When I apply to most of my schools, I'll be applying for Biomedical Engineering; but I know Duke is really competitive in this area and I'm fairly sure I wouldn't get in. Is there some other major I could apply within the Trinity College (possibly bio, microbio or something) that would be significantly easier to get into....allowing me to eventually transfer into BME? Thanks.

pratt is more stats based and trinity is more holistic

if you really want to get in, do ED

anyone can transfer to BME, but its best to put that down if you want to do it. Since anyone can transfer in, I doubt it makes much of a difference

but since they only accept a set amount of people into such a competitive branch, wouldn't it help my chances to apply to trinity? My stats are nothing spectacular (only thing I can really give you right now is old Sat: 1450. haven't taken the new or SAT II's yet).

I actually am doing the very thing that you are considering. I would say I am pretty well all around w/ pretty good stats (not spectacular or anything, 32 ACT). I asked an admissions officer before applying ED, which school I would have the best chance of getting into even though I wish to pursue biomedical engineering. She recommended that I apply to Trinity, then if my grades are ok after the first year, I can transfer to Pratt my sophomore year. When I sign up for classes for next year, I am simply gonna act like I am already in Pratt and start filling their requirements (e.g. Math 32L, etc.)

I would recommend that you call the admissions office and simply ask them what they think. The person I talked to was tremendously helpful. Best of luck to you.

Thanks a ton Dash! That was really helpful. Just out of curiosity, what did you apply as your major for freshman year?

DAsh...I dont think you have to apply to transfer, so it really wouldnt matter what your grades were (its better if theyre good of course)
