how is the bme program cal poly in terms of difficulty and streghnt? are the professors good? how about for medical school?
i am also considering the 4+1:when do u have to decide on that
thanks

its new but looks promising...has some nice new labs in fall. I hear the profs are very good, though it seems that there are very few running it. Planned to be and may be abet-approved by the time of graduation
BME at calpoly is probably the 'harder' route to med school but people do go through it. you decide to go 4+1 during jr/senior year of college; it seems like a GReat program, though many say its more truthful to call it a 5+2 rather than 4+1
good luck

are there good job prospects for it...if not im thinking about switching majors. what major are u in?

im going to do bme at calpoly in the fall. though bme at cal poly isnt exactly recognized i chose it because 1-i saw it as something i'd enjoy studying 2-cal poly is known for its eng programs, and bme, though not traditional, is in fact a type of engineering

At the moment, getting a job as a bme may alot harder than as a mech or chem engineer. Ive been told by many that it'd take at least a masters to be competitive. But jobs change and nobody can tell you how things will be exactly in half a decade
I think most are predicting a higher demand for medical based jobs (probably doctors more than bmed engineers but it applies to us as well) with the whole prospect of marketing to aging baby boomers. I dont know.. i picked bme mainly because it interested and really stood out me

good luck

ohh thanks...have u been officially admitted yet?
any current cal poly students with input?

yeah ive been admitted, secured dorm rooms (do this ASAP if you do plan to go), sent in forms, etc
of course im not a current student but I've talked to many of them, and im sure you will get to chance to as well if you attend open house next spring. just from memory-the comments on the bme program by tour guides/students

-broad subject wise. Experiences can be very different with certain professors. classes are not hard to get----its just hard to get the time/professor you want. alot of students use Polyratings.com which lists and reviews most the professors
-challenging but good program
-program is still new and developing....
-BME itself has great professors
-Co-ops with other companies are very available to students and many gene/bme students take a quarter or more off to do these
-cal poly is known for its hands on learning....lots of labs... respect from industry and students usually find jobs easily. >>however there have been no bme majors graduated yet so statistics for that certain major is nonexistant
good luck

im biomed engineering at cal poly too...i honestly doubt that the job prospects will be anywhere near the other engineering majors
