BME at Vandy

Does anyone have or know anyone that has any experience with this major? Is it impossible to get a good GPA in this major as a pre-med? And are there good opportunities for BME graduates?

BME is an extremely practical major and there is rapidly growing demand for BMEs. This forum is mainly for Vandy-specific questions. You should do some research on biomedical engineering in general for more info.

It’s not impossible to get a good GPA by any means, but there are certainly easier majors for pre-med. An engineering degree is a fantastic fallback should you decide not to pursue medical school, which is pretty common.

Here’s the Class of 2014 placement report for the School of Engineering: http://engineering.vanderbilt.edu/docs/VUSE-Class-of-2014-Placement-Summary.pdf . There’s a lot of information about the major on Vandy’s engineering website.

@Pancaked, that was a fabulous link. Is there a similar one for HOD grads? Thanks for your help!

I don’t think there’s one specifically for Peabody. I think it’s pretty rare for any university to publish data like this. There is one for the entire school, with a little less information-- here’s the Class of 2013 version:

Like most engineering majors, BMEs can go on to do a variety of things after graduation. For instance, one of my fellow classmates ended up working for an oilfield services company. Another went to grad school and now works for DuPuy.
