BME/Computer Science Questions

I am currently a senior in high school and I plan to major and have a career in BME. I may wish to pursue a career in medicine and I think this would be a good way to get there if that's what I choose.

I really like computer science as well though. If I choose not to go into medicine and with job outlooks being what they are for BME, I believe this is the career path I would want to pursue.

I was thinking about double majoring in the two. I know it will be difficult. Is it possible to do in four years or would it take five? I would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Double major in BME and CS? Forget med school then (unless you're a freaking genius with an outstanding work ethic).

If you really wanna become a Doctor, don't major in engineering.
Its very hard to get a gpa of more than 3.6 in engineering.

Also, the BME field isn't really a big hot field.
and its better to major in EE, ME, or Chem E to enter the BME field. mainly because the B.S. in BME is a new type of degree.

You can't officially double-major in BME and CS, but you can major in BME with a focus in biomedical software. Keep in mind that at the B.S. level, job prospects are actually rather poor for BME majors, but the CS concentration would make you more attractive than most graduates.

Regarding my last reply, sorry. I forgot I was not in my school's forum. At my school, anyway, you can't have two majors in the engineering school.

At JHU you can major in BME with a focus in computational biology and have the option to take up to 27 CS credits. (18 advanced electives at the 300+ level, 3 not so advanced electives at around 200 level, and 6 credits of electives that can be whatever you want...) The BA in CS requires 30 credits. There will be other courses you have to take though, like discrete math.

Still you can always fulfill your CS/BME dreams that way.

Thanks for the all responses.

So what is the general consensus here about BME?
