Got into both, having a really difficult time making decision. Cornell nominated me for a fellowship but it's ranked 25. Please help.

But it's in Ivy league, besides Northwestern is too cold...

"Ivy League" doesn't matter that much for grad school.

you say Northwestern is too cold? You should come see how Ithaca's like during winter....(I'm an undergrad @ cornell)

I'd say go to NU, unless you have any specific faculty you want to work with at Cornell. Like Aceflyer said, Ivy league doesn't mean anything for grad school I don't think.

You're pursuing a PhD, right?

I second plzinsertcoins. Ranking aside, I just think location matters more in grad school unless you are the kind of person that doesn't mind living in small towns. For undergrad, at least there's campus life and you are always taking classes and meeting new classmates. But grad students look more to the city/town for social outlet.

It is ture that "Ivy" or presitige itself does not mean anything, but what makes Ivies become Ivies does matter.

"Ivy League" doesn't matter that much for grad school and for undergrad and for PHD and even for M.eng and many things...

But Ivy=trumpery? Definitely not.

Okay, so NU's program is older and well established. Cornell's BME is 4 years old. I understand that Ivy league doesn't mean much for grad school, but the program Cornell is very flexible. The PI at NU is very well established, with promising funding and everything, which may help when I look for a job. However, I did enjoy my visit to Cornell a lot and met some nice people. NU require more classes and more TA...still trying to decide...does ranking matter that much?

For graduate school, the quality of the program in question matters. An "Ivy League" designation, or lack thereof, does not.

For example, the Chemical Engineering graduate programs at UMinn-Twin Cities and UWisc-Madison are pretty much indisputably significantly better than, say, the ChemE grad program at Columbia. I don't say this to pick on Columbia, I merely use this as a specific example.

More information about the question. PI at NU is full professor, well known in the field. PI at Cornell is Associate, very ambitious.

Also, I think Cornell is ranked 25 possibly because it's a really new program with grad program only.

I am also interested in Cornell's BME program and I think the most appealing part of the program is the funding and I think the ranking will probably increase in the near future.

I agree. I like the summer immersion program in NYC. Please email me at kaniwowo@gmail.com and we can talk about it:)
