bme program rankings

does anyone hav a full list of rankings of bme programs...

I know the first 3... but so do you probably, anyway:
1. Johns Hopkins
2. Duke
3. UC San Diego

4 Case Western Reserve University

5 M.I.T.

6 University of Pennsylvania

7 University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

8 Northwestern University

9 Georgia Institute of Technology

10 Boston University

11 University of Washington-Seattle

12 Rice University

13 University of Virginia

14 Stanford University

14 Vanderbilt University

16 University of California-Berkeley

I thought MIT didn't offer Biomedical Engineering but only Bioengineering?

I think both names are the same thing. UIUC calls their program bioengineering too.

Just wondering, where did those rankings come from?

Here's the list of ABET accredited schools.
http://www.abet.org/accredited_programs/engineering/schoolarea.asp

i thought that the size of case western's department was second only to that of the mayo clinic...

CWRU's BME is small, true, but that's what probably makes it a good program. It would seem reasonable and logical that with a smaller size, they can use funding well and there's also more professor to student contact. All those things shouldn't make the size of the BME department at CWRU a bad thing.

Mediterranean are you sure about those rankings? Where did they come from?
Don't you think not being ABET accredited should affect some of those schools?

ABET doesn't affect the the quality of the programs.

Those rankings were given to me by the moderator, Alexandre; he got them from US News and World Reports.

Many of the university programs are new and will have to wait to go through the ABET accreditation period.

as i said in a previous post, i think the rankings are a bunch of b"r+1"...
I would not agree with those rankings because for specific subjects, USNews's method is a real bad method that relies on the number of responses the specific university gets towards their program. Lets say for example that you have University X and on the survey 74 colleges rank it at 10. But then you have University Y and on the survey 73 colleges rank it at number 1... University X gets a higher ranking...

yea, i think you get a much better picture of what a schools bme program is like by visiting, looking at their research and checking out their faculty.

So what programs do you guys think rank in the top 5?

here is what i concluded after visiting ALOT of those programs:

1 is far and above Johns Hopkins - they have got their **** together, and they have a great program.

2 is probably Duke - pretty solid program backed up by the med school.

3 - MIT - just developing the undergrad major, but its obvious that they know what they are doing and they are beginning to pursue this heavily. i wouldnt be surprised if they move up to tie with duke soon.

4 is UMich - again another solid program which has stood the test of time. the med school is okay, but whats really special here is the engineering aspect.

5 would be UCSD (but it may be higher, I never actually visited here b/c im east coast) - they have some very interesting research and have produced some great investigators. they have by far the best program on the west coast.

penn's program is WAAAAAY overrated by the way. i dont think they ever really set up their department the right way. and engineering overall at penn isnt that great anyways. it seems their "bioengineering" department just sort of grew out of their medical school. it doesnt even have its own building. i would not suggest penn for bme.

pilot, umich medical school is "okay"? its one of the best.

What do you know about Case with the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital right next door? And what about GA Tech?
