Does anybody know how the biomedical program is at columbia? From the website, it looks pretty good, but it'd be cool if someone who went or is going there can tell me. Thanks.

its great if u want to go into industry or engineering grad school...other than that its not worth it (except maybe prelaw where they might value an engineering background when you go to get a job)

what about if you're premed?

its a bad idea if you are premed

So, in essence, BME is great for everything else but being a cut-throat grade-grubbing premed? Hmmmph.

thats true...and, since they changed the curriculum it doesnt satisfy the premed requirements as well as it used to.

Are there any other reasons why the BME program is bad for pre-meds? If it's just because of the mismatch of the pre-med requirements, then I don't really see it as such a big problem.

well since there r alot of classes required for the major to begin with, extra classes become harder to take.

I will refrain from saying anything specific about anything other than the requirements until after i graduate for my own sake.

its going to kill your gpa but the programs great.
It does not have abet accrediation yet but thats only because the department was formed in '98. Next review is '07 i think?

*** your telling me that BME is a good background for pre-law but not pre-med? ***. Do any pre-law courses even overlap with those of BME?....

there are no such thing as "pre-law courses"

I'm talking about law-related courses. I don't understand how engineering has more to do with pre-law than pre-med.

I am just saying that your engineering degree will be appreciated more if you go to law school than it will be if you go to med school....but of course your courses, especially in BME, will be alot more relevant to med school but will not affect what you practice later on while in law it probably will.

Engineers know how to think. That's appreciated.
