BME with BioNanoTechnology

I've graduated from med school(which i think was a mistake),
and wanna crossover to biomedical engineering.

My GRE score is 1500 (Verbal - 700, Quant - 800)
I have a special interest in bionanotechnology.

I like the program at purdue, cornell, uiuc, clemsons and cincinnati.
all of these have bionanotech as a special area of interest.

which of these is the best and the worst?

Are there other colleges offering BME Phd with special bionanotech department or faculty?

you’re insane.
A med school graduate in engineering?
After all your student loans???

I don’t think that’s insane at all! There are quite a handful of MD/PhD (in BME) in the BME field and do really well because they understand the clinical aspect so much more than other PhD’s who may specialize more with math and engineering.

As for the four schools listed, you can’t go wrong with either. What specifically are you interested in bionanotech for? Look up their faculty lists and start contacting the ones that match your interest.

I imagine a lot of those MD/PhD people did MD/PhD programs, though, instead of spending a few years in med school then 5+ more at a PhD program.

Not to hijack your thread, but I think bionanotech sounds interesting and have recently thought about going into that field. What do you all think is the best route to enter this field? I’m a senior in high school right now.

Loans go into forbearance during grad school, so at least the poster wouldn’t be required to pay during grad school.

May I suggest Duke. Have you looked into Vo Dinh’s lab? [Faculty - Duke BME](<a href=“Sorry, can't handle your request: https://fds.duke.edu/db/pratt/BME/faculty/tuan.vodinh/]Faculty”>Faculty | Duke Biomedical Engineering Department) He works primarily in biophotonics. It’s all beyond me but I can tell you that bme is a huge department at Duke with a lot of support for the graduate students.

uh i never had student loans, my dad paid for med school :stuck_out_tongue: and also i’m indian, i studied in india.

thanks@ everyone who relplied

what do you think are my chances of being accepted at duke or john hopkins?

Do you have a MD or MBBS? Have you completed a residency and/or fellowship? It makes a difference for graduate admissions. What prior research experience do you have? Publications? Posters? Conferences? Presentations? Grants? This is the kind of information that would be relevant for admissions, not GRE scores.
