Bme

anyone accepted with biomedical engineering as major?

bosox, I believe that BME is a major that one applies for after the first year in the engineering school.

yea thats why i asked... i had BME as my intended major but since im not guaranteed admission into the program, i now dont know whther ill be going to UVa

Just go to UVA and do well. They cap enrollment in the major, but it's nowhere near impossible to get into.

thanks cav...thats what ill probably do...but would it be possible to transfer out of engineering into a&s and major in bio

Yes. Or you could stay in the e-school and major in chemE with a minor in bio or something like that.

Is your intention to go to medical school?

yea i def want to go to med school

lol. You may want to consider switching to the college to major in biology, then, unless you really love engineering or you're some kind of masochist.

haha yes my interest in engineering is completely derived from my love of being emotionally and physically abused...haha ill prob wind up trnasfering..we'll see...is transfer process long and complicated?

No, the transfer process isn't too difficult, from what I understand. As you'll find out soon enough, the engineering curriculum is rigorous enough. Adding the premed requirements on top of those classes will be a huge amount of work. Of course, if you can get through it with a sufficiently high GPA, you'll be in a great position to get into medical school.

ok.. when do u recommend i transfer or apply to fransfer or whatever i haveto do

Do whatever YOU want to do, not what you think will impress people or what is most prestigious.

cavalier302, I am almost in the same position in where i am not sure whether or not I want to stay at the school of engineering since i want to go to med school in the future and probably would need to take many additional courses to fulfill the required courses. I applied as a BME major and was accepted this week. However, If i do decide to change my mind and transfer to the college of arts/science, what would the transfer process be like? and about how early would i be able to make that transfer? thank you~

I'm in exactly the same position and some friends have told me it might be easier on me to get into med school by going through the college. Im seriously considering it because medical school is my goal my parents just told me bme is a good thing to do so i did what they wanted. Is it possible to transfer into the college before first semester starts?

seems like this has already been pretty much answered, but I am also looking to become a BME after the first year.

I have already sent emails to the undergrad director or the program with quesions. It doesn't seem like it is incredibly hard to get into (like 15-20 or even less get rejected). The only thing I'm worried about is the diversity part they are pitching; I see the necessity of it, but I have never specified my race in anything because I don't want to be admitted to anything because of my race, and I don't think anyone should be.

It also seems like you don't have to have a large bio background to be successful in it. I haven't taken AP Bio and I asked about taking a summer class at the local community college, and she said I would be fine probably without it...even if I didn't take bio at UVA the first year.
