Boarding School Applicants for Entry Year: 2012

Yeah it was quite long, but it was an Alumni interview. He talked a lot about Andover; it seems like everyone who has gone there has an undying loyalty for it, it’s amazing.

I’m scheduling my last interview (I know it’s kind of late :frowning: ), for Andover, and I really don’t know which alumnus to pick. It’s pretty easy to search them all up, so I know their backgrounds, but which would be more likely to give me a favorable report?.. similar to me, not similar, etc.

I know nobody knows for sure, and it probably depends. But what do you all think?

Yeah I just picked the first one I saw. I wouldn’t try to pick a part information about each person. Just ask your parents, if they recognize any of the names, and if they don’t I would just pick a random one! But I guess if there are distinct similarities between the two of you, you’ll have something to talk about, so he/she gets to know you. But that’s hard to figure out with just a simple search.

CherryRose - I actually had to email 4 people before I got one that responded haha! I guess what you can do is to pick the one with the most recent graduation year (for more updated information) or just email a few just in case some of them are on vacation during this period.

Bumping this thread! So where is everyone applying? What schools did you knock off after visiting and why?

10th grade to Andover, Choate and Hotchkiss  I didn’t visit, but I knocked off the following schools for the follow reasons.

Episcopal - (was actually one of my top choices) no FA for internationals in normal cases. :frowning:
Thacher - no off campus interview :frowning:
Middlesex - same as above when I started applying. I know they have skype now.
Emma Willard - wasn’t that interested in the idea of another 3 years of all-girls school

Final list:
Episcopal
Stevenson
NMH
Blair
St. Andrews

I’m a bit iffy about St. Paul’s and Andover. So… I think five is a good amount, considering some of these schools have a Feburary deadline. I’ll be writing essays soon, and I would appreciate if anyone would read and edit them. If you’re interested PM me.

Updated list:
Middlesex(having second thoughts, seems too small)
Peddie
Andover
SPS
Deerfield
Taft

Didn’t get to visit any of my schools!

Did you alumni interviews?

Yep for the ones that were required.

Taft
Kent
NMH
Middlesex
Deerfield
Pomfret
Tabor
St. Mark’s
(in no particular order)

i really wanted to apply to Episcopal but my parents said it was too far away :frowning: i also love miss porters but my parents don’t want me to go to a girls school.

My daughter’s applying to Episcopal because it’s not too far from our hometown. It seems to suit her extremely well, and we both love everything we’ve seen of it. It’s the only school she’s applying to.

My final list hasn’t changed; still
Milton
Deerfield
Choate
St. Paul’s
Hotchkiss
Lawrenceville
Groton
(in no particular order). I visited all the schools in early October and honestly loved every single one, but for different reasons. :)

Rizzledrizzle - I’ll edit your essays. PM them to me!

In no particular order, I’m applying to:
Deerfield
St. George’s
Lawrenceville
Blair
Hill
Middlesex

I have visited all of them except Middlesex.

Oh, oops! I just realized you said to PM you. Sorry :)

Does anyone know if I can submit the common personal recommendation form from gateway for deerfield and andover? It’s the personal rec I know SPS accepts.

@helloel - I’m not sure, but I would assume so.

But I just took the SSAT! omg im so glad it’s over!

Will the schools notify you if you have something wrong or missing in your app or will they just automatically reject you?

no they notify you, i was missing something in my app last year and I got a letter like 2 or 3 days after the due date. I didn’t get rejected there (WL) so yeah.

Oh okay that’s a relief. Can you be waitlisted for missing something though?
