goldenratio, I’m not sure if he misspelled it, but there is a private day school in NJ called the Pingry School

Is anyone else just applying to Exeover?

I am applying to Andover and Exeter CellyZ (and SPS, DA, Choate, Lville, Milton and Asheville)

I’m applying to just Andover and Exeter

Hi,

My D Is coming out of public and has applied to 3 Perochials and 4 BS’s as a day student.

I guess we wanted to spread the gap between the public option to the elite to see where we would land.

Thus far the 3 Catholic schools have all accepted and 2 have offered their best scholar packages. Not bad, plan B secure.

We are very excited waiting to hear from the BS’s in March. We would be happy at any of them, but not sure if the FA packages will be sufficiant at the ones we have confidence of acceptance at.

The most selective, Andover is her strongest hope and seems to have the greatest synergy. It’s been her highest focus. I literally could drop her off at the chapel during an open house and she could easily give a campus tour for prospective families. She’s that comfortable and at home there.

Tick-Tock, going to be a long 30 days or so.

I am applying to:

Choate
Deerfield
Loomis Chaffee
Westminster
St George’s
Hotchkiss

SPS
Andover
NMH
Lawrenceville
Groton
Hotchkiss

In no particular order.

And Andover’s Summer Session.

Hey guys I’m not sure if this is posting in the correct place or not but hey it’s worth a shot. I first came to CC when I searched Hotchkiss in google a little more than 5 years ago now,so it’s hard to believe that this is my first post.

I haven’t been on CC in a long time- definitely not since I came to Hotchkiss 4 years ago. On a whim, though, I decided to check it out again simply because this site might be one of the reasons that I chose to spend four years in Lakeville.

That choice was, and still is, the best decision I’ve ever made. This place is magical. Plain and simple. It doesn’t get any better. Just like anything else there have been times when it’s been hard, but sitting here with a little more than 3 months until I graduate I cant help but think that if I could do anything with my next four years, I would do Hotchkiss again. In a heartbeat. These four years have gone by quicker than I ever could have imagined they would.

If I could refuse to leave, I would. And I might try to do just that. But seriously, if any of you guys are at all thinking about Hotchkiss, believe me when I say that this is the place to be.

GO BEARCATS!

^ As a prospective student, I’d like to ask what exactly about Hotchkiss made it so enjoyable :)

I agree with GoldenRatio, I’d love to know what’s great about Hotchkiss because I am now tempted to go :)

Hey Claddagh13,

I got wait-listed by Hotchkiss but would love to go. Is there anything I can do or say to improve my chances of getting in when it comes down to it? Also, roughly how many kids of off the waiting-list are excepted every year, would you say?

Thanks.

^ I got waitlisted to Hotchkiss as well.

I applyed to St. Pauls and Blair. I got accepted to Blair, denied at St. Pauls. I think I’m going to wait a year and reapply as a repeat freshmen at St. Pauls or a sophomore. Hopefully. Saturday… Oh goshies, saddest day of my life. I would’ve done anything to get in.

Does anyone know how many kids applied to the New England boarding schools in total? I have noticed that there is so much overlap with many kids getting into the same schools. Also wondering about the wait list issue. Last year there were posts of all the kids getting in, etc. Not much on where they ended up attending and little info about what happened to kids that got wait listed. Anyone out there have any info?

I guess I would really like to hear from kids who had success getting off the wait list.

Check out this thread - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1093284-anyone-have-waitlist-story-happy-ending.html

'The reason you don’t hear much about people getting off the waitlist is that it doesn’t happen that often. There’s a strong belief on this board that sending the admissions officers pleading letters and updates about sports victories and academic achievements will eventually lead directly to an offer of admission. The truth is that if you were waitlisted, it is unlikely that you will get off that list. There’s nothing wrong with hope and optimism, but be realistic and come up with a plan that assumes you are not going to boarding school. If things change, hurrah. If they don’t (and it’s likely they won’t), you will have spent your time dreaming and planning for the far more likely future.
