Boarding School Equestrian Teams??

Which BS do you go to and how many people are on your equestrian team? Also, do they cater to more english riders or western riders???

How serious/competitive are they? Do they have just one show a year? Do they just show on the Interscholastic circuit? Do they just do open shows? Or do they allow their students to show on the "A" and "AA" Circuits such as HITS, etc?
In Equestrian sports which schoools generally view eachother as rivals?

Here in NE a variety of schools compete on the IEA circuit including: Dana Hall, Stonleigh Burnham, Ethel Walker, Miss Porter’s, Williston Northampton. The first three make it easy to bring your own horse and have A circuit trainers that can take you to the big shows. IEA is never as serious as the A circuit, and in general not big rivalries, etc. Most of the big riding schools are all girls.

Also check out the all girl schools in Md. and Va.

Thacher has a huge horse program, primarily Western for most kids. It’s woven into the fabric of the school and everybody participates. [The Thacher School ~ The Horse Program](Horse Program) and the instructors like Richard Winters and Cam Schryver are amazing.

It also has a very active award-winning English style equestrian team that travels around the western U.S. If you’d like to learn the detail of what’s offered in the Western and English programs, ask the Admission’s Office and I’m sure they can put you in touch with Cam or another of the horse directors.

Hi!
We just went through this with my daughter who is an equestrain, HITS, Vermont etc…not Florida. We found that the majority of the equestrian schools that are in the New England area are all girls schools. Kent (coed) has riding but didn’t make it seem as though it was a riding “team”. Walkers, Stonleigh, Porters all have riding. Foxcroft in VA is a big riding school from what I hear. A lot of the schools have “barns down the road” which you could possibly take advantage of. There is a sophomore girl at Westminster who shows throughout the year including in Florida but Westy does not have a riding program. Hotchkiss does not have a program but there is a barn down the road that a few students use. Hope this helps!

George School, in Newtown, PA, has a very active equestrian team. It is a coed, Quaker, boarding school.

I think Culver has a pretty strong horse program. But I don’t know if it’s such a good place for “goths”.
