Keep in mind the questions for your interviews will differ based on the answers you give on the sheet they ask you to fill out before you get there.

Andover:
-they ask you very fact based questions(do you play instruments, sports, how long, etc.)
-why do you want to go to boarding school?
-why do you want to attend Andover?
-what will you contribute to Andover?
-then they asked me about my passions(sports, music, etc)
Exeter:
Just about the same thing as Andover

No matter what school you interview at boarding or college your going to have to know how to advocate for yourself. That was one of the things I didn’t know how to do until I finished my interview at Andover(it was my first one). After your first interview it gets much easier.

It’ll depend on the interviewer, and possibly if it is on/off campus.

Andover (on-campus): I don’t remember exactly what questions were asked, just that my interviewer was very nice and it felt like I was able to describe an accurate and positive image of myself. Basically, like confusedonhades said, we started with those generic questions. Then, I was asked more specific questions about some of my interests.

Exeter (on-campus) : Similar to Andover, but I didn’t do well at all… I do remember being asked a series of questions along the lines of:

Choate: This interview was with an alumni. He was really nice, and it must have gone okay since I was accepted, but I felt like I could have expressed myself a lot better. I was only asked a few generic things, actually–he had a copy of some form I filled out with my interests and asked me about that. Mostly he just described his experiences at the school, so I ended up learning a lot about Choate; not sure how much he learned about me…

Oh, also, in all of my interviews, the interviewer asked to speak with my parents. He asked a few questions, and let my parents ask any they had as well.

My suggestion is to use the interview as an opportunity to get a feel for the school. Some you will do really well in, and at others you may not “click”.

Definitely practice a few questions, maybe do a few mock interviews. I would recommend videotaping yourself to improve your interview. Prepare a few questions to ask them too! Of course, be yourself, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to make sure that portrayal is a good one! :)
