<p>I am desperate to go to boarding school for high school. However, when I look at the websites and brochures and reviews, they never say anything about life in a boarding school. Are there ever parties or anything? If so, are they supervised? What is life like with the dorms? Are there omnipresent drugs or alcohol? I'm not asking these things because I want there to be unsupervised parties, drugs, etc. I'm just curious about what life is like in a boarding school. Also, what do people do in their spare time? Are there cliques/popular people? Is it true most people in New England boarding schools are really rich and are only there because their parents don't want to take care of them?</p>
<p>Again, I don't want these things to be true. I'm just going off of rumors, news stories, books, etc because so far I have no idea what to expect.</p>

<p>Prep school dorms are different from college dorms because there are always adults in residence. Often families live in house attached to the dorms and/or other adults live in apartments within the dorm itself. These adults are often faculty, but can also be adults whose main job is to be “dorm parents.”</p>
<p>So, as you might imagine, it would be pretty difficult to have an unsupervised party in a dorm. Drugs and alcohol are there, but IMO not as much as you’ll find at the average day school. </p>
<p>Almost all schools have a decent percentage of students on financial aid; schools that give higher amounts of FA to a higher percentage of students will have greater diversity and fewer wealthy kids, but I think all boarding schools a healthy number of “really rich” kids . </p>
<p>According to my kid, some kids in his dorm consider school homier than home, but most come from families who love and miss them a LOT, but send them to boarding school because it’s the best place for them to be. </p>

<p>honestly… I cant do it. in my school there are strict rules. you basically live with faculty all the time and you feel more mature than them. its annoying… also, if its a christian school its even worse. trust me, you have to go chapel every single day and they relate Jesus in every single thing that has nothing to do with it. you go insane at the end of the day. most teachers are conservative and annoying. if you’re not an out-going person, dorm life is good. but if you’re social and mature, its hard to be in a dorm with a bunch of “kids” and strict rules to keep them quite…
yes, there are activities, faculty everywhere. boring… and theres time which they dont give you…
oh and, everything is blocked (websites). i couldnt update my blog for a year.</p>
<p>It kind of depends on the type of boarding school you go to as well. There are coed boarding schools, [college</a> prep boarding schools](<a href=“Coed Boarding School | Private Utah High School Boarding School | Grades 9-12”>Cedar Ridge Academy Boarding School), and then schools that are more like boot camps. You can probably find a school that suits your liking best, but you will have to look around a bit.</p>
<p>I think classicalmama gave you the best answer; I found myself nodding my head with her the entire time I was reading her response. Some of what Reveriece said is true, but obviously she dislikes her school, so don’t take everything she says to heart. I would suggest you talk to several students to get the “real” answer you’re looking for–to students who like it and those who dislike it. </p>
<p>A few other suggestiosn: you can probably contact the schools you visited and ask to speak with students. Another option is to visit their Facebook pages and ask. A third option is to find out if the schools offer an opportunity for an overnight visit. </p>

<p>Most parties at my school happen off campus. There are dances every weekend; some are good, some aren’t. There’s also interschool dances to look foreword too. Mostly they’re just referred to as “sex fests” though. With the dorms, you just chill with your friends, play video games, be on your computer, get hw done, etc. You are not in them too often though, if the daily schedule is structured right.</p>
<p>With any teenage community, there will be a certain level of drugs/alcohol that make their way around, but those who give themselves a reputation of being the dealer or pothead don’t stick around very long. There are certainly no problems where I am. </p>
<p>People aren’t attending these schools due to wealth anymore. I know loads of inner city kids, and about 40% of kids at my school rely on scholarships to attend. Even only “select” rich kids end up in the better schools, since the acceptance rate is ~20%. Don’t worry about overwhelming rich-kid culture, it’s not a problem at most schools.</p>
<p>Thanks for all the replies, everyone. It’s good to hear different perspectives and opinions. I still would like to know, are there cliques? At my current school, cliques are everywhere, which is one of the reasons I want to leave, so I would hate to be caught in the same situation again.</p>
<p>I go to boarding school in Ireland, and its a day and boarding school.
There are cliques and the popular kids and they can sometimes be quite harsh on judging people.Its not the same in every school, but thats the case in mine.
Our daily routine is this;
7:30 - Breakfast
8:40 - Chapel/Assembly
9:00 - Class
11:00 - Break
11:20 - Class
1:15 - Lunch
2:15 - Class
3:35 - Schools finished</p>
<p>Theres sports after school and then dinner. We have a supervised homework time thats usually for 2 and a half hours at night then you go to bed at around 11.
Dorm life is brilliant and you make amazing friends and memories that will stay with you for life. Teachers turn lights off at night and although some are *******s, some are great and you can make friends with them too.
There is a big division between the day pupils and the boarders, because they dont really understand why all the the boarders are so open and close with each other.</p>

<p>Boarding life is really a different experience for students. The structure of boarding life is schedule by boarding school. Boarding school along with their staff and faculty manage the routine of the students. Such scheduled life-style develop in students the sense of responsibility and discipline. Top boarding school India create such environs for students which develop great qualities in students.</p>

The loving staff take due care of us. They scheduled our daily routine and make sure we follow them seriously.The friendly ambiance at such school cultivate in student special attributes and habits with very ease.</p>
