Boarding School Reviews: CC Style

For future, current, alumni, prospective applicant, parent, CCers who can provide their own individual insight on different schools. I think this would be a great way to view different schools from different points of view. The layout school look like this:

School Name:
Title [For lack of better term; which is basically, are you a student, parent, etc.]:
Personal Ranking (0-5 Stars):
Experience/View at School:
Academics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Athletics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Arts (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Dorm Life (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Faculty to Student Relationships (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Other Students (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars):
Conclusion:

So basically, you type in the name of your school, and state what POV you are talking from (as a parent or student, etc). Then you give a personal ranking out of five stars and talk about what you think of the school. Then, explain the academics, athletics, arts, and the dorm life, along with how your peers agree and how the student and faculty relationships are. Then for the CONCLUSION, you briefly state how this school has nurtured you... or how much you loathed it... I think this would be a great way to have reviews and perspectives on these schools. Views on some 'Hidden Gems' would be appreciated too.

Give me until October; I’ll reply then. GAH WHO AM I KIDDING I CAN’T WAIT.

Bump (tenchar)

Nice idea for a thread. DS is applying out this year, so I’m all ears & will contribute once we have something to report! Especially interested in the commentary section - what might make a school 5 stars for one person might not resonate with another (ie, school is strong in theater but weak in another art area; or school is sink-or-swim & the reviewer thrives in that environment).

Bump…

Wow this looks like a really good starter thread but it is not getting started. It could benefit a lot of people including me so I will bump it.

I’ll definitely give my input around November or December when I’m on break! :)

Gah… Guess me and LeoBro (and others) will have to tough it out until break… (;

Frowny Face :frowning: :p

I’ll comment during break in November, once I’ve had time to adjust.

I’ll do a review at the first break!! Can a returning student from any school give a review, 'cause new freshman can’t really give their opinions yet

Of course! I should’ve added a “Years Attended” section…

To supplement this thread, BSR already offers similarly structured reviews (which include “Years Attended” sections ( written by graduating seniors from top boarding schools.

For example, by a graduated Middlesex student,
[Middlesex School - Student Review #4](Middlesex School - Student Review #20)

And from Andover,
[Phillips Academy Andover - Student Review #2](Phillips Academy Andover - Student Review #11)

I don’t know if there are reviews for every boarding school commonly discussed here, but hopefully this helps!

ill be sure to revisit this thread in about early October, or whenever i feel i know the school well enough :)

I’ll give my review on October. I just have to think of good or bad review on boarding schools. [Best boarding schools](<a href=“teen-boarding-school.com - This website is for sale! - teen boarding school Resources and Information.”>http://www.teen-boarding-school.com/) deserves a good review. You know what I mean :)…

So I can’t quite give you a full review yet…but I can say that Deerfield is an amazing place. Being a freshmen is so awesome…everyone makes you feel welcome and treats you like you’ve been a part of the community for as long as they have!

Can’t review yet, but I promise I will soon!

School Name: Phillips Academy Andover
Title [For lack of better term; which is basically, are you a student, parent, etc.]: alum
Personal Ranking (0-5 Stars): 5
Experience/View at School: i’m not sure what you mean by this
Academics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 5
Athletics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): i don’t feel qualified to rank them, since i didn’t play
Arts (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.5
Dorm Life (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.5
Faculty to Student Relationships (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.9
Other Students (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.8
Conclusion: The academics were, for me, basically flawless. I had one chem teacher I didn’t particularly like, and one math teacher I didn’t particularly like, but these were personality issues, not an issue of quality of instruction. I rated dorm life as a 4.5 only because a few of the dorms were a tad rundown (but they’ve probably been renovated since I was there). My experience at Andover was extremely positive, though, and I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking for a welcoming, but academically challenging boarding school environment!

Bump…

School Name: Deerfield Academy
Title [For lack of better term; which is basically, are you a student, parent, etc.]: student
Personal Ranking (0-5 Stars): 5
Experience/View at School: Not so sure what you mean, but it has been awesome so far.
Academics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 5
Athletics (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): Don’t play, but my friends have told me that sports are sooo much fun.
Arts (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.9
Dorm Life (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 5 ( my dorm is literally the best
Faculty to Student Relationships (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.8
Other Students (How they are and ranking on 0-5 stars): 4.75
Conclusion: I have concluded that Deerfield is an awesome place to be. I’ve only been here for 6 and a half weeks, but I already know that this is going to be one of the best experiences of my life. Sure, not everyone is best buds with everyone, but everyone is friendly and I have personally never felt shunned from one group simply because I didn’t ‘fit’ in with the rest of the crowd. Although they sometimes can be challenging, my teachers are genuinely compassionate and care about me having a good education. they want to see me and every other student here succeed and I feel that they are always available to help you, so they do actually care. Both socially and academically, I have found my groove here and I feel that in my time here, I will be prosperous.
