boarding school showers

anyone who has gone to boarding school- generally what are the showers like? are they like the pool style open showers, or private with curtains/doors? and is there any privacy for changing?

This varies greatly by school, and even within schools, by dorm.

the dorm we visited had separate showers with curtains. The bathrooms were very basic though.

i saw the same as PA-C

This could be good…

I WISH we had bathtubs ! I mean really that would be totally awesome. A man has got to have a nice bath every once in a while. I miss bathtubs dearly… Showers, Showers, Showers they are all the same. I mean have you ever seen a clearly designed shower ? I doubt it! Bathtubs are they way to go. They come in so many shapes, colours and sizes. You can specify whatever features you want (i.e jacuzzi, chrome handles, rims, and whatnot) and you can essentially enjoy yourself for ages on end in the comfy waters of your bathtub. What is not to like ? Perhaps when our children come to boarding school they will have in suite bathtubs / jaccuzi and dorm rooms will resemble hotels. I bet dorms will start going up vertically as well kind of like levrett towers at Harvard. That’s my two cents anyways.
prezomar is online now

Well, back in the good old days when I was at BS (when we considered ourselves lucky because we had indoor plumbing) I spent a year in the appropriately named Edsall house. I lived on the third floor. To take a shower, I had to walk down two sets of stairs, through the common room, past the door of the master’s apartment, and then down another set of stairs into the basement. The shower was an unheated room in the basement with a couple of shower heads on the wall and a drain in the floor.

I think for the most part things have improved, although I don’t think you’re going to find too many schools that have bathtubs with jacuzzi’s, chrome fixtures or automatically dispensed bubble bath prezomar.:)

we have three bathtubs in our dorm, If i were to use one, I would clean it first.
we also have separate shower stalls, not a group shower.

OK- I’m losing my mind- I just read the title again quickly and thought this was a thread about having a party to send your kid off to BS where people would bring gifts that they registered for at a store- you know like a baby shower! :)

I am losing my mind.

^YEAH ! that’s what I thought too !
i was like , hmm that’s interesting …
LOLL (:

There are definitely enough things to buy to send your kid away to BS that you COULD have a shower- as long as people would agree to come that is…

You could register at target for towels, xtra long sheets, shower caddy, printer, computer, printer paper, ect…

I thought the same thing…and it is a great idea!!! (But most of our friends and family think bs is frivolous and unnecessary, so they wouldn’t be thrilled about contributing towards it).

That’s what I was thinking lol. It’s just sort of obnoxious if I were to put myself in there minds. It makes people think that they should be sending there kids to BS at first…then think think…no I shouldn’t. That is unnecessary, not an accomplishment, and they shouldn’t be happy about it.

That’s the perception I get atleast, so I don’t really tell anyone unless they ask

Isn’t it sad that family/friends can’t be happier for these kids and let them enjoy this accomplishment?

I know my son’s grandmother is not thrilled.

Hardly any of my family (or people in the area) are too excited that I’m seriously applying next year. It’s sad. I wish people would understand what these schools have to offer, especially in comparison to the local schools. They give so many more oppurtunities and allow other beliefs, other than the highly regarded Republican ones that surround us here.

Wait 'til somebody, whats the word fif is looking for here, ummmm, “pees” on your leg the first time.

Never forget the first time. Good times. Good times…
