I really agree that schools aren’t going to allow people in. Parents of kids aren’t even allowed out of their cars. And our kids are tested 1-2x a week!! So by extension we are probably safe.
Haven’t’ heard this, but many/most schools are on Spring break most of March. That leaves a lot of time for them to set up re-visits, if they wanted to/needed to. They could do it in blocks and have the cleaning done weeks before kids are due back.
Yes, but I think a decent number eliminated March Break, to avoid kids coming back to campus twice, with the tough testing and quarantining requirements involved.
@cinnamon1212 of course that makes complete sense on “bubbling.” My mind went to some play on “simmering.” Got it. Makes sense that a school would’t break their bubble.
SMS eliminated their Spring Break - I already know they won’t be having in-person revisits, because I have volunteered for the admissions office this season and they were talking about their virtual revisit planning at our last meeting.
Mercersburg’s spring break is prior to M10: 2/19-3/5, so it isn’t possible to have revisit days over break. At this point I would be surprised if they were done in person in April; the school had a closed campus in the fall and I’m guessing it will be the same for much of March and April when students return to campus on March 6.
Cate’s spring break is the same. Kids will be quarantined and/or officially a “closed” campus for at least three weeks for pretty much all of March.
I can’t imagine Cate would be considering in person revisit days.
Re: what does fall look like @ Exeter -
Fall will at worst look 25% better than this fall - they’ll adjust the schedule, stagger arrivals over a four-day period, and have us quarantine for the first 2 weeks back on campus (I don’t predict them delaying the return to campus, though). In-person classes will be off for the first week, then slowly integrate into once-a-week in person classes for each class. Open areas in scholastic buildings will be used for indoors dining later on in the term.
OR
Fall will at best look 90% better than this fall - all of the above plus almost in-person classes, at least two dining halls with seating, academic buildings are open throughout the term.
This is all based off impressions of what the pandemic will look like in fall and how the PEA admin has reacted thus far. I could be off.
Re:Revisits in the spring/Family Weekend in the fall -
Not happening in the traditional sense until things get significantly better. Family Weekend is a hard maybe, but even then it won’t be the same. It’s possible that Revisits will involve prospective students “sitting” in on classes and other activities via Zoom, but they’ll definitely be way different. And Family Weekend… I think it’s more likely than not that it won’t happen at all.
Exeter currently has hybrid in-person classes and will probably continue this in the Fall. There are very strict COVID measures so if you decide to go it will be a safe option.
