boarding schools in california?

I was also rejected from Thacher. I wanted to go there ever since my friend decided to go (she's a senior now), and was certain it was my first choice during most of the application process. When January came, I realized that it would do a lot for me if I branched out to the east coast, so I've decided to go to NMH. I didn't apply to Cate though. Do you think it is easier to get into than Thacher? I've had friends who haven't gotten into Thacher but got into Cate. Not to diss Cate, the admission just might be less competitive due to number of applicants, class size, etc.

i just got accepted (late, but I am a native american) for thatcher. Thought it was a good fit for me as I have been riding horses since I was 2.
I looked at cate, but did not apply as i thought the kids were snobs and on drugs (speed - really constricted eyes and fast talking)
My dad decided he did not want me to go east after i had applied

also, probably one of the best schools in the us, not only ca, by its ivy acceptance - is stevenson. i did not like it as it is only about 50% boarding.

..........

Stevenson?
never heard of it

Stevenson, a coeducational boarding and day school in California, is 800 yards off the Pacific Coast. At Stevenson we have thoughtful students, a gifted faculty and staff, a lively curriculum, an exceptional range of academic, athletic, and artistic choices, a respectful and welcoming community, and a serene, comfortable campus. As a student at Stevenson you may find yourself developing film in photography, enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) classes, or participating in one of our numerous student clubs. Our sports programs include football, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, sailing and water polo (to name a few). Fine arts opportunities at Stevenson seem endless as students act in one of our drama productions, dance, sing, draw, or paint. Students can be a disc jockey on our radio station, travel to Europe with our spring musical, or create a treasure on the spinning wheel in ceramics. Rock climbing, kayaking, weightlifting and yoga are also part of our after-school program. Academics are interesting and challenging, whether you are taking a freshman environmental science class or AP calculus class. So this is Stevenson: the school where you need to be serious about studying, about preparing for college, and about respecting yourself and other people – but also serious about enjoying life.

thx for that

Biggestfoot, what does being an Native American have to do with being accepted late to Thacher?

That post made me smile :), but I don't understand it.

Are you going to go to Thacher? It's a great school. I think you'll enjoy it.

an ethnic unrepresented group. would be even better if i had two x's instead of xy.

No, I understand the URM part. What I don't understand is what being an URM has to do with being accepted to Thacher late.

It's harder to get accepted late, so because an URM makes it a lot easier.

that is correct
I had applied out east and to cate (which i did not like) . my dad was sort of "too busy" to think about it until after 3/10, then he (and the elders) decided they would only let me go out west so i applied to thatcher late.

cool, bigfoot! so you were able to apply after 3/10 and they gave you a decision w/in a week or so? that's great. I thought most kids would have to wait until after the April 10th deadline to find out if they were accepted if they applied late.

my sis goes to thacher. She really likes it. She only did the horse program freshman year though...it just isn't her thing.

Stevenson is also known as RLS or Robert Louis Stevenson.

BiggestFoot, Thacher is spelled with only ONE t.

I hate to be so bitter, but you were probably only accepted for the fact that you are an URM, a "rare" Native American. Sorry, as a ORM (OVERLY represented minority, a.k.a. ASIAN) I'm upset by how much Affirmative Action affects the system.

I'm usually not like this; rejection is hard to accept sometimes.

lean
actually, as you will see, i was accepted many other places. my ssats were in the 98% (99 reading, 97 math) and i have an a average in middle school. but you are correct that it helped me get a late acceptance in addition to all the regular ones i got.

sorry that you don't have the grades....
