I am looking at private schools such as Phillips Andover Academy and Phillips Exeter Academy for the 2011-2012 academic school year. I am curious as to know what are the things that you did that you think helped you get accepted? I am a very smart student; All A+, #1 in my class, I am an acclaimed writer in my school, very good at math. I have Algebra II as a freshman. I am in the Spanish Honors Society, National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Multicultural club, volunteer club, am the President of the SADD Committee, I play guitar, build robots, build/fix/program computers, play football, and basketball. Please give me your opinion. Any help/advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I applied to Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Blair, Peddie, Deerfield, Choate, and Milton. I was accepted at all of them, and a few of them mostly because of my family reputation, I’m assuming. My great-grandparents went to Andover, and my dad went to Milton. Also, my aunt and uncle, who are twins, went to Exeter.

I chose NOT to go, not because of money or anything, but because I hadn’t experienced a true high school (I app’d when I was in 9th grade, so I would get in for Sophomore year.) I got my acceptance letters midway through the year, and had already decided I loved my school, and didn’t want to go to a boarding school.

Ok, so back to yourself.

Your stats are pretty good, but these schools don’t just look at numbers, which is good for you. It seems like you have more than enough clubs and extracurriculars; but you should actually tone it down, and try expertising (sp?) in 2-3 of those clubs.

Let’s put it this way, it’s like applying for Ivy’s, but for high school.

P.S: You NEED to be perfect at your interview, if you want one. I really recommend it, as you get a tour of the campus as well. Be sure to wear a nice jacket, ironed shirt, nice tie, nice slacks, and shined shoes. Comb your hair and look sharp. Andover and Exeter look for people who they believe they can mold into the next “big thing”

Good luck, if you have any other questions, PM me.
