BoCo Acceptances Class of 2012

I prefer emails but I can't promise to answer them all as I am a volunteer on the forums (to help many at one time) and get a lot of emails from members wanting individual assistance, and I have to tend to the ones from my clients first and this is a busy time with college decisions coming out.

I've been making a round of calls to some of the schools my D was accepted to trying to get as much info on financial aid as possible. I thought it might be helpful to post what I found out from BoCo this morning for the rest of you:

If you were going to receive a scholarship, it would have been stated in the letter of acceptance that was available online over the weekend. The only way that you might be able to get one later is if one of the students who was accepted does not accept the offer of admission, and then the funds might become available to be awarded to someone else. However, it will be awhile before they will know if they have additional scholarship money available.

They have been evaluating the results of all the submitted FAFSA's. From that, they are determining the need-based aid. The gal told me they will be sending the aid packages out starting today and tomorrow. However, she said that the maximum possible for federal need-based "grant" type awards would be $7K. Anything else would be offered in various student loans and work study. She said that yes, their students pretty much have to plan on taking out loans. Hope this helps you all during the waiting process.

I know this is probably a silly question... but is it too late to apply for financial aid now on FAFSA?

epo9- From what I understand, it's probably a ittle late to hope you'll get a really good financial aid package, but I don't think it's too late period. The later you submit it, the less funds are still available to be given out. They always say that the earlier you get your FAFSA in, the better your chances are of getting more financial aid. However, you may still get something if you hurry! Call the financial aid offices of wherever you're looking at asap -- they will tell you for sure.

My daughter was waitlisted at BoCo and is very disappointed. It's one of her top choices, and is really hoping to be moved off the list and into the acceptance pool. First off-- for any current BoCo students, do you have any idea what the waitlist looks like this year? Also, do you have any advice I could give her that would better her chances of acceptance? Secondly-- to any kids or parents of kids who have been accepted and know they will be attending a different school, I would just strongly ask that you please notify BoCo as soon as possible to open up more opportunities for other kids who are anxiously waiting. The email said all decisions would be made by May 10th, but it would be helpful to know before May 1st, since her other colleges will need to hear by then, but these are schools she would much less like to attend. Thanks so much.

Dramamama....while your D will have to commit to another school by May 1, should she get off a wait list after May 1 (which is usually when any wait list movement occurs), she can enroll at the wait list school and forfeit her deposit at the original school. This is how wait lists work and schools expect this to happen. She does not need to hear from her wait list school prior to May 1 (though it would be nice) and it is uncommon to get an offer off a wait list prior to May 1 just so you know (at any school).

Hi dramamama-

I so hope she gets in- this is the most stressful thing we have ever gone thru!!!

My D was accepted into MT at BoCo, but so far we have only seen acceptance on the website- her letter has not arrived yet. While the website included a merit offer, it did not include the complete financial package. We are also waiting for the final departmental offer (merit) from Emerson. Until we have all of the complete offers, we can't make an informed decision. We can't swing either unless the financial incentives are pretty good.

We promise that as soon as we have all of the information, we will start accepting/rejecting!

Good luck!!!

I just wanted to give everyone a little bit of info regarding the scholarships at boco! I called the Tuesday after acceptances went out to discuss my financial situation and was told that the scholarships that were awarded to students who do not commit to boco WILL DEFINITELY be reawarded and the BEST thing to do is to call the Admissions Office (not financial aid office) and request to be put on a scholarship waiting list.
I called and spoke with Kristy Ererra and she was EXTREMELY helpful and kind and notified me on Friday that I was given an annual 7,000 dollar scholarship!!!

It's worth a shot!

I know already of a few students who were awarded very LARGE scholarships who have rejected their spot at boco and are attending other programs. CALL CALL CALLL and see what they can do for you! They are extremely helpful!

Dramamama- I am so sorry your D is in that position I am sure the anxiety is overwhelming! I will definitely keep her in my prayers! I know of three girls so far who have committed to other schools and as far as I know they have already confirmed that with boco. I heard that they accepted a bit more than they had room for.. and waitlisted about 30. My biggest recommendation is to have your D call the school as much as possible and speak with as many people as possible to make that acceptance happen! Follow up phone calls with e-mails and reallyyy get across to the faculty how badly your D wants this. She may also be able to find out where she is on the waitlist by calling, to give her a better idea of her chances. BEST OF LUCK!!

Is BoCo hoping for 20 boys and 20 girls?

I really hope I get I can join the class of 2012 , I'm on the wait list :-(

That's the number I heard at the audition. However, I've heard other people say different things.

Has anyone received their official written offer with all of the financial aid info from BoCo yet? It's a little hard to evaluate everything with out it!!! So far all we have is the e-mail from over a week ago.

I know some folks who got the FA offers in the last few days and so I bet yours will arrive any day now.

The official FA package came today for my S. The direct costs for full time undergraduates was $48,020, which included tuition, fees, orientation fee, dorm, and a 15 meal plan. The only thing he was offered was a $3500 subsidized Stafford Loan. The letter indicated that the student may ask for additional loan money to cover costs.

If your D was not given a talent based scholarship.. she should call the admissions office and ask to be put on a waiting list. I did this and received a 7,000 dollar annual scholarship. It's not a huge amount of money but it definitely helps!

Sorry.. I meant S! and HE should call! :)

Just to let folks know....there is now a general class of 2012 Facebook group.

Have been too stressed making decisions to post,
my D was accepted with small scholarship....:)

does anyone know how many people have accepted boco mt?

we were told during the 'chat with admissions' chat online that they accepted 57 for mt.

Seems like more than that.
