<p>Foolish, not free speech at all. You were just rudely interrupting assembly.</p>
<p>Your school does have the right to punish you for that just like it can punish you for swearing. Just because you have the right of free speech in general, doesn’t mean you can always exercise it (you almost give up your rights while at school).</p>
<p>In general, I’d say high school kids who boo their principal aren’t trying to make a political statement, they’re just being smartasses (hey, all teenagers are, whatever). I don’t think it’s weird they asked you to apologize…he’s in charge of your school, so he deserves some respect.</p>
