Book- Acceptance by David Marcus

<p>Apologies if this has been discussed before (I did a quick search and nothing came up).</p>

<p>Have y'all read this? I'm almost finished and really enjoying it. Anyone interested in the college application/admission process should definitely read it. It's now in paperback. I've read other books by Marcus and I like his style. It's non-fiction, but really has some great information and puts a lot of things in perspective. The stuff about essays is particularly good.</p>

<p>The focus is one Long Island public high school with an incredible college counselor who has been at it for many years. He is truly gifted in finding the right "fit" for the students. </p>

<p>I read it a while back (borrowed it from the library) and really enjoyed it.</p>

<p>I read the book and attended a discussion where he spoke at our school. I enjoyed the book for the slant it gave to the process for the kids covered, but saw it as a utopia which didn’t really translate to the real world, and we have much more guidance attention than in many places. Since I had already drunk the “find the right fit” kool-aid, perhaps it was too much of preaching to the choir.</p>

<p>I enjoyed The Gatekeepers much more, maybe because it was one of the first books I read on the college process years ago. I would love to see another book of that ilk following the process from inside the admissions office.</p>

<p>Rachel Toor’s book about her stint as a Duke admissions officer is fun and a little like Gatekeepers.</p>

<p>She is a little full of herself, but I found it interesting and entertaining. Any other recs?</p>

<p>I read Acceptance last summer and liked it a lot. I missed the CC credit at the end, though! Cool.</p>
