I have 12 but one of my GE classes alone has 7- LOL.

For book buyback, will USC only purchase books you bought from the USC bookstore?

No, I've sold back books that I got on amazon- they don't care where it came from.

Whether or not you want to buy all of the books depends on your study habits. You can always check books out from the library or borrow a book from a friend. Personally, I find that I need to have a copy with me, so that I can refer to it whenever I want. Some books you will barely use- that you can usually find out on the first day of classes.

I have 9 books for one class. And it's a GE. I have a bad feeling about this...

does anybody know whether it's really necessary to get the media eduspace package for the zumdahl textbook for chem 105a or can you go without it?

3 books. For $430. Yay.

Oh yeah, does anyone know if Writ-340 has a course reader?

This might make some of you feel better: my son has 27 books on his list! 23 of them are for TO courses, so at least they're not the really expensive kind.

suggest checking facebook marketplace for books, for example I put up all my books from my ARLT class (like 9 or 10) and I'll gladly sell the whole set for around $20, I'm sure there's others like that.

i love that it's my first semester at USC (transferring in) and only 2 of my classes require books and it will be cheaper than my last year at SMC. holy crap i love it.

@ppenguin757: Don't buy the optional. Wait until your professor says "Hey, you should check this out."

@usc0524: They will take any book (I sold a bunch I bought from Amazon) unless it's an old edition.

Also, check if your books are online. Some of them are! And whatever you do, unless it's a course reader and you're bound to buy it, DO NOT BUY FROM THE BOOKSTORE! It is SUCH a hassle to buy all your books from there - not only are the lines ridiculous, but the books are overpriced.

For me this year, I only have to buy one set of books (text, workbook, cd) for my Japanese class. It's $160 at the bookstore, $120 from Amazon, and $89 from Barnes and Noble. Hmmm...saving 70 dollars sounds like a good thing :p

And yes, the classes with a lot of required texts are a pain. More specifically, the GE history classes. Last year, my Medieval Civilization class alone required 14 books.

Yeah for a ****ty price though. Like cheap paper back books that cost 8-10 dollars, they take back for like 60 cents-1 dollar. Oh well, least they bought it (I even had a book that I got online that was a preview edition. Like no page numbers, no ISBN number, no barcode, lol) least they took it :) they pay more money for thicker books.

If its a text book though, it usually gets sold rather quickly so I would sell it online... for more moneh.

Hell yeah, much more cheaper to buy it online. I bought the japanese text book for like 60 dollars? It was perfectly new :) And just telling you, you don't need the CD either (they have it all online) which i was worried about @ first.

i set up a spreadsheet to compare prices for my books this semester (i know, very OCD of me), and for the most part [for the classes i am taking, anyway], the USC bookstore is actually CHEAPER than amazon and also for barnes and noble. i will probably be buying a few from b&n and samuel french [theatre major represent!] but for the most part, the bookstore is actually cheaper, which i was really surprised about.

Do we not have any books for Writing 140?

srabiee90: When I took it, we had to buy a course reader. I think there were a few optional books such as one for proper MLA citations, the Elements of Style book, etc. It's possible that the department hasn't submitted the book list yet, but in a few days it should be complete.

I found this site for USC books:
screwthemiddleman.com - Never Get Cheated.

Does anyone know about it?

Tip for Math 218:

If your book has the title "Statistical Thinking for Managers,"
it is the 4th Edition published in 1998.
The ISBN that the booklist provide would not yield any results because it
is an ISBN for the bundle of this book plus the MiniTab 14
To buy the book alone, the ISBN is 9780534204068 (hardbound) or 978053453728 (paperback).
Used copies for are available for as low as $15

This year, I was able to purchase several books at a great price with fast shipping. Even with an expedited shipping fee, the cost was cheaper than the bookstore. Make sure the ISBN is the same and you'll save your parents $$$

Amazon Marketplace is pretty good for cheap used books. If you're really lucky, you can get nearly the same amount at buyback, thought that depends on the availability and original price.

Thank you, 1lazysoul, one question :

"978053453728 (paperback)" has one ISBN # missing?

correction:
9780534368258 is the ISBN for the "Statistical Thinking for Managers" Paperback version.
