so i was wondering if it was wise to start buying my books. i dont have my official classes yet, but i can see the required books for the classes i want to take. should i buy now before they get more expensive?

and for financial aid.. that money goes into our bank account?

wait, AFTER? How do I sign up for classes, then? I’m on full financial aid/loans, so I have no means to pay fees without the financial aid money.

It doesn’t take 3-4 weeks…more like one week or so. The way financial aid works at UCSD is that you’re billed a certain amount and your financial aid will be used to pay that bill. Any leftover money will be placed into your bank account about a week later or so.

no no no.
first your aid money will go into your student account a.k.a. you can’t touch it unless you buy things via the bookstore (or some other places on campus) and say you want it billed to your student account.
after all of your fees are paid for, any leftover aid you may have will THEN go into your personal bank account.
your stuff will get paid for don’t worry.

a week after the deadline to pay all your fees.

This thread really cleared things up…another question though… is the financial aid leftover just from fall quarter? So we do this every quarter when we have fees to pay and each quarter there is leftover financial aid put into our bank account?

@graciee: correct, or you can go to the cashiers office and write a physical check and avoid the $.50 fee or whatever. i mean hey, you get some exercise and can save up to buy that $.99 candy bar or something. hahaha.

@confuzzed: when can you see the charges or when can you see your new total (or new lefrover aid balance?

@alexatucsd: yes yes and yes, they spread aid out quarterly so you if you get leftover aid for fall quarter, you’ll likely get the same amount leftover each quarter.

@paradise17 When can you see if there is financial aid applied to my student account under billing and payments in tritonlink? I am a continuing undergrad apply for financial aid for the first time. I should be getting some but I haven’t gotten any email notifications from the financial aid office so I’m getting kind of worried now.

when i called the financial aid office last week they said that they’re a little over halfway doing final awards for freshman so i’d imagine they would start giving out money until after they’ve done this.
but aid money should be getting in your account in about a week or two. it is deposited pretty close to the deadline, but don’t worry it’ll be there in time.

oopsies. hahaha. i wouldn’t recommend buying books until after you’ve registered for classes, even if you know that you have to take a certain class eventually.

what’s on the UCSD bill that is automatically paid for by the financial aid? tuition, housing, and meals? and then books and supplies we buy ourselves right?
