Books for incoming medical student

Hi,

Though I am still in the midst of the application process, I have been accepted to the school where I think I will matriculate. So, in many ways, I am moving on from the process.

Unfortunately, taking a year off, I am in a socially and intellectually isolated job in the middle of nowhere, so I am looking for something to occupy my mind.

I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for books that may be relevant (if only tangentially) to medicine and that are intellectually rigorous. I am not looking to begin my studies early ("to make med school easier"...hah) or to read the more anecdotal accounts of life as a doctor, etc. I am more looking for books that may cover interesting subjects that do not receive enough - or any - treatment in med school, whether it is healthcare economics, disparities, certain basic science topics, etc.

Please let me know if you have suggestions.

Health Care in the USA : [Health Care USA: Understanding Its Organization and Delivery](<a href=“Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles & More | eBay”>Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles & More | eBay)

I have a older edition because it was cheaper. So, I don’t know what differences there are in the book.

Otherwise, I’ll put a plug in for Economics in One Lesson as well: [Economics in One Lesson](http://mises.org/store/product.aspx?ProductId=33), you could also buy this from half.com as well.
