Hi,
Does anyone know when the USC Bookstore will begin accepting orders for Spring 2011 semester schoolbooks?
Thanks.

Probably around the time that the new book list comes out. Say a week or so before classes start.

How do we know which books to buy after registering for classes?

There are two ways to determine which books you need.

The first is to log into your Oasis account https://camel2.usc.edu/OASIS/Login.aspx and choose “Book List” (second item in left-hand column). It should be up now for the Spring 2011 semester. It lists books by ISBN numbers and gives the USC bookstore’s new and used prices. You can use those prices to comparison shop other sources - just be sure to purchase book by ISBN number to be certain you are getting the correct edition.

The second (if your booklist is not yet available) is to go to the Spring Schedule of Courses [Spring 2011 | Schedule of Classes](302 Found) and go to each course for which you have registered. Click on your section and go all the way to the right under “info” - for courses that have books assigned (some do not), there will be a tiny icon that looks like a little stack of books. Click on the icon and the books for that course will display. Make sure you are looking at the section for which you have registered - occasionally different instructors will have different texts for the same course.

Be sure to shop around - there are many sources for textbooks that are less expensive than the bookstore.

Good luck!

^ do you have any particular source in mind? Amazon is usually cheaper right?

Yes, Amazon usually has slightly lower prices on new books, and Amazon Marketplace is a good source of used books - but look for the ones that qualify for “Free Super-Saver Shipping,” otherwise it is $3.99 shipping per book and that can add up if you are getting a bunch of books.

Sign up for Borders coupons - they send out 33% and 40% off a single item fairly regularly - that is a good one for the near-$200 books if you want new.

And there are lots of good suggestions in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/955938-books.html?highlight=books

^lol thanks, I shouldve researched this sooner - I was a noob to waste so much money on overpriced new books last sem in the bookstore

im looking for people who want to sell their books from previous years in the following classes. message me if you have any of them for good prices. willing to pay cash during welcome week anytime.
