Sorry if this has been asked before:

Is it better to buy books used/from ucsd students or is it better to try the book lending program UCSD offers. For the latter, the books would be free but if damaged then they would have that blank check....

If we get books through the book lending program, are we allowed to highlight materials, etc.?

Thanks guys,
You are all a big help.

I’ve always bought my books from Amazon/Half because the prices there are significantly lower than the prices at the bookstore.

Thank you very much :)

This is just me personally but I like to buy my books. I like to annotate and highlight my books to help me better understand the material. Books on amazon are much cheaper than the bookstore (but you have to factor in the s&h). You can also go on UCSD Class of 2015 or so and see if people are selling the books you need. They generally sell them a lot cheaper than the bookstore and no shipping and handling.

You can get used/good condition books from places like Amazon/Half, Chegg, or even craigslist. Most times the new ones are even cheaper than new ones from the bookstore. Chegg does rent out books, if you’re interested in that.

Buy from Amazon/Half and sell them back when you’re done with them.

Last year, I bought a lot of my books from uloop. You just arrange to get the book some place on campus, so you eliminate shipping costs :]

You can also check out facebook marketplace to look for any ucsd students selling textbooks.

I do have a question about buying used books from independent sellers on sites like Amazon - were there any problems with the condition or shipping? I recently bought a textbook and for the last two weeks it still hasn’t arrived…
Also, has anyone ever bought international edition textbooks? Are they significantly different from other versions to account for the fact that they’re 50% cheaper than the other versions?
