Hey Guys,

In the Sat Essay they want you to cite evidence from literature in the essay.
What are some good books to read that might be useful on the sat.

So far from example essays, I have seen...

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Great Gatsby
Lord of the Flies

Thanks

Anything on this list would be good: [Literature Study Guides - SparkNotes](http://www.sparknotes.com/sparknotes/)
Except like Harry Potter and stuff like that.

I mentioned grapes of wrath on the June sat and got a 10…

The once and Future King = 12 for me.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair if you can tie in Cruelty or sadness or something
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne if you want strong women/passion/dedication
The Great Gatsby if you want the same reasons as before and something about people being fake and chasing money and glamor life stuff
Walden by Henry David Thoreau if you want nature or rebelliousness
And maybe a fiction book thats kinda about recent events or history- like the Kite Runner

Those are the only books you need to know.

For another example I recommend knowing something about athletes such as Steve Prefontaine or Jesse Owens or other famous people such as michael jackson. It shows you have diverse examples and know what you’re saying about them.

There’s an excellent thread about the formula to follow when writing the essay if you haven’t seen it already

Thanks so much guys. Aluminum_boat, do you happen to know the name of that thread?

Gatsby is a great one to use for the purposes of anything related to materialism and the American dream. Catcher in the Rye can be useful if used correctly, as can be Brave New World. Also, it never hurts to go beyond literary examples in the essay.

The name of the thread is… how to get a 12 essay in 10 days or something like that

Oh and catcher in the rye
