If a student buys a used textbook that does not include WebAssign will the instructor accommodate them in some other way and if so how?

My student’s Math 142 class requires one of the following and I would like him to get the one withOUT Webassign because it is cheaper. I would appreciate it if someone will clarify this and elaborate on it for me. Thanks in advance.

Yes this would be good to know because I am wondering the same thing.

This is the WebAssign page for the Stewart Calculus book;
[WebAssign - Calculus 6th edition](http://www.webassign.net/features/textbooks/scalc6/details.html?l=search)

Look over the tutorial examples, these seem to be especially valuable for students, my guess is it would be money well spent.

I’m just saying, after all the other money spent to get a kid into Cal Poly, I would want to give my student every possible advantage.

From the link you gave it sounded like the problems are something the teacher should be assigning. Well if the teacher is not using Web Assign what use will it be? I would not think we would just randomly be going and going online problems.

I have not used it, possibly someone out there who has can better inform us.
You can buy a subscription to it on line after the class starts if you think it will help.

If it is like Math XL from high school it is a technique tutorial for every technique in the book. That was really helpful. If a student did not get the technique in class they could view the solution step by step as often as it took to master the process.

WebAssign is an online homework system, where students can complete and submit assignments created by faculty for a part of their overall grade. If WebAssign is a required part of the course, then the student will need to purchase access to WebAssign. The student does not need to buy an activation code card bundled with a textbook, though. If the student buys a used book, they can still purchase access to WebAssign in a variety of ways (directly online when registering at WebAssign; as a stand-alone code card from the bookstore; or directly from the textbook publisher, if they have an online store. Prices will vary depending on where the code is purchased.). I’d recommend checking with the teacher to see if WebAssign is required for the course-and, if it is, research the other options first to see if the used book + access cost is a better value than the new textbook + access code bundle.
