Just so we can all stand up for good Literature.

I'll name a couple to start:
Pride and Prejudice
Shakespeare

Just so we can all stand up for good Literature.

I'll name a couple to start:
Pride and Prejudice
Shakespeare

Catcher in the Rye
Siddhartha
Anything written by Steinbeck

heart of darkness
brave new world
the great gatsby
shakespeare
sophocles

That's all I can remember from that thread.

Harry Potterrrrr

Tess of the D'urbervilles

the odyssey...good god, how can people actually hate this book?

Pride and Prejudice

Austen famously said that she didn't write "for the dim elves in the corner." Turns out there are a lot of dim elves.

:p

Yeah, I'm with you on The Odyssey, too. These kids are crazy!

I cannot for the life of me comprehend how anyone could ever hate The Awakening.

To a lesser degree: Pride and Prejudice, A Separate Peace (own both of them), The Oddessy, Hamlet...damn. A lot of them.

I second Catcher in the Rye and Steinbeck (love him!!). Plus Bukowski and Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius).

The book that almost everyone seems to hate: A Tale of Two Cities.

You seriously need to get your head checked if you don't like that book.

Hamlet, anything by steinbeck as others have said it...laugh at me if you want but the da vinci code isn't that bad ( I know its not "good" lit. but it is entertaining).

whoever said "anything by shakespeare"

fuming

I like P&P, too. Austen was such an excellent observer on the topic of making good matches. Perhaps it's been overtaught.
Though Mansfield Park is my favorite Austen book. See "Location" to your left, under my screenname.

Steinbeck isn't awful--he's not, you know, riveting, but he is interesting. Whenever I hear the word "Salinas," I smile and think of The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. Too bad the town doesn't have a library anymore!

I LOVE A Tale of Two Cities. As my English II teacher said when she taught it, "The whole book is a soap opera!"

^The Grapes or Wrath and East of Eden..I loved those books.

I've never read Catcher in the Rye.

megaman, I agree with you on the Da Vinci Code. I actually liked it.

Angels and Demons > Da Vinci Code, but Da Vinci Code was REALLY good too! Harry Potter and the Half Blooded Prince was FANTASTIC! The Great Gatsby was not that bad, The Awakening sucked ass, Their Eyes are Watching God was alright at times, A Prayer for Owen Meany is a Great ****ing book, As I Lay Dying was confusing at times but it wasn't that bad, and yea... that's it
