This is one thing I am having trouble with...I've done some research and people recommend not buying from Hammes (more $). However, everyone says if you order from Amazon, you won't have them quite in time. Does it really take that long? and I just put my course in the Hammes bookstore and those are the books I need?
I feel like I should get my books soon though : )

Oh well I have started finding used versions on Barnes & Noble. Yay! It says it will only take a couple days to ship though, so that’s cool.

A cool trick I learned through the years is that international versions of textbooks are almost always cheaper than local versions. They say the same thing and look nearly identical. If you search around some websites you might be able to find these.

Amazon is always a great place to purchase textbooks. The “free” shipping is fast and I almost always get my things after 3-4 days of ordering. Be sure to get the paperback versions for best savings.

Thanks for the tip! I am going to use Amazon as well. I don’t like how the Hammes bookstore doesn’t give much info on the books - at least some have pictures though. I just hope I get the right ones. heh. [Like my calc book, I can find “volume 1” or “volume 2” but not the normal one described]

Oh! and I am guessing I must buy this from the Hammes book store?
General Chemistry Bundle: Lab Manual/Notebook/Binder/Goggles/Lock

Check out BetterWorldBooks.com. They’re based in South Bend, and all of their profits go to 3rd World literacy. Their prices are really good as well.

You can get the lab notebook here.

[Amazon.com: Student Lab Notebook: 100 Top Bound duplicate pages (9781930882003): Hayden-McNeil: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Student-Lab-Notebook-Bound-duplicate/dp/1930882009/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1249277803&sr=8-3)

Everything else you can pick up at Hammes for a reasonable price individually. If you are having trouble finding matches on Amazon, just compare the ISBN#s. The easiest way to do it is to just type the ISBN# into the Amazon search bar and search.

Is it really time to buy books?

Goggles and Lock can be purchased anywhere (Wal-Mart, etc).

Awesome, thanks everyone. How do I compare the ISBN #s? I see it on the Amazon and other sites, but not on the Hammes bookstore anywhere. ^^

^^I have the same question. For those of you buying from other sources-how are you locating the ISBN #s? My S has bought from the bookstore the last two years, and they could be obtained much more cheaply elsewhere. He’s leery though, without having the ISBN.

My apologies. It seems as though the bookstore website does not have the ISBN#s on their site. I believe they did a few years back.

Anyway, if you still would like the ISBN just go to the book publisher’s website and search for the edition in question. Then shop around using that number at different sites.

You might try emailing profs for ISBN #s. Many of them are very conscious of the ridiculous prices for texts and may be willing to help you out.

How do you find out which text books professors intend to use?

Does anyone know what “BNDL: CHEMISTRY & CHEMICAL REACTIVITY ENHNCD ED” refers to? It’s $247.00 at the Bookstore, but on amazon, the “Chemistry & Chemical Reactivity Enhanced Edition” book from the same author is $133.00 used, this seems to be too big of a price discrepancy for it to be the same thing… has anyone taken Intro to Chem yet? haha

I don’t know anything about that book, but i wouldn’t doubt that it isn’t the same. There is never too big of a price discrepancy. That is only 50%, I have found books for up to 80% cheaper using amazon and half.com. The bookstore is just outrageous.

How do you know that is the right lab manual? I am having trouble finding it individually based on the information from the bookstore. All the other books I found (except a PE book that is not on any site that I am ordering)

Don’t buy a PE book just yet. You only need it for Contemporary Topics, which is only 1/3 of a year. Split the cost with someone when you get to school.

Oooh, thanks for the tip. Good to know (it’s $50!) Now, quick question… so we can just buy books on campus? and I would have it in time for gym? :o I am also planning on buying the ‘wellness binder’ when I get there

The lab notebook I listed in a previous post is used in organic chemistry labs. I cannot remember for certain if we needed that notebook in gen chem lab. They may have recently changed the curriculum and now require it.

Hmm, okay! Maybe I will just buy the $105 set from the bookstore. It is a bit expensive though haha.
