Boost in Confidence?

Not only have we all seen these type of threads but there is a whole forum dedicated to this. Chances. We all grow anticipation during the beginning of the senior year. College applications are upon us and we stress to find that "perfect match" that will accept us. And through our despiration we sometimes call on the help of others. On CC many ask for their chances to get into a certain school.

But do we truly believe that other high school students and college students will know our future. The college application process is not determined by our peers but by a board of alumni's, profs, and whatever else they have. So why do we ask for these chances? We do it to relieve anxiety and anticipation.

The college of your choice shouldn't be, and probably won't be, decided by a bunch of random strangers online. No one even truly says "You will not get in." We are just creating this false hope to help our confidence. So what I am asking is just forget about these chance threads. Apply to a school you are truely interested in even if you have a lower GPA than the average. Maybe you have a few to little volunteer hours, it is ok. Don't let a bunch of strangers determine your college.

I kinda agree with you. It is worse on the transfer threads. Some of the folks on the transfer threads will flat out act like a GOD about "chances."

I think that there is no harm at all in obtaining opinions, but for one to solely rely on one site for their "chances" is stupid.

It would be nice if some of the threads had some sort of disclaimer. You know, something instructional and logical for some of the "chances" folks. That is just my opinion and I am by no means trying to be mean to the "chances" folks nor the transfer students.
