Boosting GPA during the Summer from around 2.4 to 3.0? Studying Abroad questions

I’m a freshman majoring in electrical engineering at UIUC and I currently have around a 2.4 cumulative GPA and was wondering how much 6 credit hours over the summer would be able to boost my gpa up to 3.0 or really close to there? I really want to do study abroad, but the programs I want to be in need a 3.0 minimum. Also, would studying abroad second sem. junior year or first sem. senior year be too late? Thanks!

That’s a math problem that requires more info, like how many credit hours the 2.4 represents. If it’s significantly more than 6, the summer hours won’t have much of an impact.

On campus, I’ve taken a total of 33 credit hours, but on my DARS report with the inclusion of my AP credit, it says I’ve earned 42 hours. Do you know the highest that my GPA would be boosted up to if I get As in the 6 credit hours over the summer?

(33x2.4 + 6x4.0) / (33 + 6) ≈ 2.65 as a rough estimate.

I am at a 2.5 GPA and I calculated what I needed to boost my GPA to a 3.0 as well. It depends on how many credit hours you are taking for each class. For instance, in order for me to get a 3.0 from a 2.5 GPA, I will need to take six 3 credit courses and get an A as well as two 4 credit courses and receive an A to get a 3.0 GPA. However, I can also retake classes to boost my GPA so that would decrease the many classes I have thus far to take.
