So I'm from the south, where it never gets too cold and snowy. And now I'm going to Boston, where it gets VERY cold and snowy. I'm sure I'm not the only one moving from warm to freezing weather, so my question is...
what do people at boarding school wear as snow boots? winter coats?

I have Uggs that I plan on waterproofing, but I don't know how well they'd hold up, so I'd like a snow boot too. Or would my wellies work?

And for jackets, all I have are a northface (the generic kind), a peacoat, and a trench. I need a warmer one.

I know when it comes to snow function is more important that fashion, but I'd at least like to fit the "boarding school fashion" for this.

My son will be attending Northeastern in the fall. I was also wondering about boots for him. I know he won't wear snow boots, so I was wondering what the guys wear. Timberlands?

My advice to both of you is not to sweat it yet. Whatever you decide to use for boots and/or jacket you will find more plentiful and probably cheaper up in Boston. And you have several months to figure it out. Until the end of November you'll get by with sneakers!

I live in Central New York, which is quite akin to NH and MA weather. I used to walk to school before we moved out-of-town, so I know all about walking in snow, slush, and rain.
But still, I never bought a single pair of boots. I wore my Converse every day for the entire winter, and it wasn't a problem. I mean, I was wet but who cares as long as you aren't totally miserable.
Coats? I usually go for a sweatshirt/hoody underneath a light fall jacket, which means we don't spend $80+ on a new coat, except for the fall.

well, i don't go to a boarding school nor do i live in the new england area, but it gets pretty cold where i DO live and I am going to a prep school, so i guess you could get some ideas? lol

when it's cold but not spine-chilling cold, hoodies over a thin jacket like saer stated is a great way to warm yourself. but when it's really REALLY cold, as in you feel your ears freezing over, i suggest longer, thicker jackets (as thick as hoodies, or actually hoodies themselves) under a nice, warm coat :)

If you are , indeed, going to a boarding school near Boston (like Milton or Cambridge School of Weston), don't worry at all. There will be shopping opportunities at the local malls.
