Hey guys. I was just wondering, are the boots that are issued the same that the air force academy uses? And, if you attend orienation, do you have a chance to buy your boots there at that time?

You don't have to buy your boots. They are issued on I-day or soon thereafter.

Well, I was gonna go to the orientation for USAFA and was gonna get my boots then.

What boots do they issue; boondockers or something actually useful?

Man, I HATED boondockers!

You will get the boots on I-Day. Remember, you do not want to stand out in any way. That includes arriving with a nicely broken in pair of boots that may or may not be the same as those issued on I-Day. Take what they give you and live with them. After Plebe year, you can purchase your own boots that fit your own personal needs as many Mids choose to do.

You were gonna go to the orientation of USAFA just to jack the boots for USNA? That's kind of odd. And by orientation, are you referring to the USAFA equivalent of USNA's I-Day? 'Cus if that's the case, they're gonna be ****ed that you just showed up for boots.

P.S. If I get into the academy this year I'll tell you some sick tricks on getting them to shine (where you can see your own reflection) in under 5 minutes.

USAFA and West Point make a big deal about the boots because they run in them. As far as I know, the Naval Academy doesn't make midshipmen run in boots unless you are trying out for Airborne or Seals. My class was issued boondockers, which were totally useless and we were also issued a pair of canvas, Converse All Star, running shoes. The Class of 1981 was issued Reebok running shoes -- a definite improvement over the Converse shoe.

Mids are issued bates lights on I-Day. They get good use out of them between the summer and plebe year. I'd say your in them almost every day during the summer, many times running. They are probably a far cry from the boondockers... penquinz is obviously not trying to say that hes going to air force I-day just to get boots. My guess is that he is referring to either summer seminar or a candidate weekend

Orientation for USAFA is in April they encourage everyone to come. Those that don't go have a higher drop out rate. The boots are 95.00 and must be paid for by money order. They find that breaking in the boots before hand cuts down on blisters and other foot problems, hence less medical turn backs.

I've been accepted to both academies. I'm not sure which Academy I'm going to. But, if I was able to go ahead and get boots and use them for either service, I mean, why not.

Ditto, although I'd hardly call those Converse All Stars "running shoes". As soon as the sole wore down, you could ice skate with the damned things.

We were told to bring a pair of broken-in white running shoes. If ou didn't, you got stuck using the Converse ones, which REALLY sucked.

Alright, so mostly white running shoe: I was looking some up online and was wondering would these shoes make the cut?

etc?

Man, I wish my shoes came in white. I love my shoes:

lol, I've even thought of dipping them in paint or spray painting them white. I remember my first cross country meet in those bad boys. Man...though I hate running, i love those shoes- most comfortable shoes I have.

The top ones should all be fine...
Look at these shoes:

My Plebe went with these and they were fine for all of the running stuff. When you are in your white works, you will wear the new balance. For morning PEP he wore his mizuno's.

My son went with and good Asics pair of running shoes..It had some blue lines and silver...They were fine..He wore them for 1 or 2 weeks before...They were still totally worn out by the end of plebe summer. We just keep sending running shoes...this last time, Brooks.

Yep, we too keep sending new shoes about every two months.

I brought new running shoes at PPW and he had to throw the old ones out...worn out and had that I've been running in hot humid weather smell to them!

The boots we were issued at NAPS are pretty nice, I think they're Bates, I'm taking those to Plebe Summer. But if I was coming in from HS, then I would just take what I get on I day and go from there.
