Bored in Alg 2/Trig

While yes it's late in the year, quite frankly I've been bored in my math class. I've known everything in the class since day 1, and the teacher who has known me from freshman year.

Exhibits of my boredom?

Falling asleep
Slight dozing off
Working on work in other classes
etc.

I hate being bored in my class, and we really don't do much. I get A's on all the Quizzes, and it's relatively easy and quick for me to do work in her class.

How should I combat the boredom?

Also post times you've been bored in your class.

why didnt you skip the class

I’m bored in my econ class. I don’t already know all the material, but it’s all common sense and really doesn’t need explaining.

Why didn’t you talk to the teacher about it and ask to be put in a different class?

draw, translate your notes into spanish/french, give people awards in your class (sleepiest, most likely to drop out, best dressed), text, sleep, play iphone/ipod games, read, make up raps, sing (in your head) a song about a random person, daydream

Work on your grip. Bring a tennis ball to class and squeeze for the hour.

You could write poems? in Spanish?

That’s what I do if I sit in the very front. Otherwise sleep is always a good option.

And you should have probably skipped. Someone of your intellect should have taken a class like this in 8th grade.

These are all very good ideas.

And the reason why I didn’t skip.

Before I came to this school, I lived in another state, for middle school, 3 years ago. In that school, 7th grade was Alg 1, and French 1. I move to my current state, they say oh, you’ll be fine in Pre-Alg(8th Grade Math) and we don’t have french and 7th graders can’t take a foreign language here. So there goes my course.

My parents didn’t really care about the class, they considered it all advanced. I tried to take classes in summer school, but they say that people of my grade couldn’t take them. Thus, I’m stuck here.

Sleeping is what I want to avoid since I sit right in the front.

So you did calculus, yet you are stuck in Algebra 2?
So are you a junior, or what? Because if you did Pre-Algebra in 8th grade, that would make you a junior unless you did skip.
That sucks that your school is oppressive to learning.
Did you take the Calculus AP test(s)? I recommend doing so so you have something to focus on, if not.

I’m actually a sophomore.

In 7th Grade I took Pre-Alg, when I could’ve easily taken Alg 1, but my school didn’t let me.

Alg 2 here for a sophomore is “advanced”.

I’ll take the Calc AP test next year, because now I’m pretty much working on it solely.

I’m not understanding something here. Didn’t you say you did Pre-Algebra in 8th grade, not 7th? That would mean you would be in Geometry right now.

No I say 8th grade Meaning Pre-Algebra is the math for 8th graders. Sorry for the confusion.

bring a laptop and play crysis. if the teacher asks what you are doing, or tells you to stop, whip out a calc textbook and throw it at her. i take no responsibility for any disciplinary action that may occur.

^ wow that weird, pre-alg in 8th grade? My school starts at 7th.
Yeah I pretty much slept through alg2 when i had it last year. This year it’s AP Eng. omg, it is the worst class ever; you just listen to the teacher talk and talk–mostly to herself too. Everyone sleeps in this class.

For me, taking Pre-Alg in 7th grade was considered by my school “advanced”. I had a 100 for the year. It literally was a joke. Alg 1 here was a joke my 8th grade year, Geom I had a 103 in, and Alg 2 I have a high A in.

I took algebra in 7th and I’m taking pre-cal as a sophomore now.

I’m taking calc bc as a freshie.

You’re welcome. Always nice to get some recognition :)

^^ I attend math olympiad meetings where students in the city who do advanced math come, my group is the newbies who have started in 2010. Anyway one girl in my group is doing calc, I’m doing math with calculus in half a year, because in NZ you take math with calculus and then calc for your last year in HS. Except math is pretty easy so many people who don’t suck skip a year or two.
Currently I take just general math, we skipped geometry (because we have to whiz through the curriculum since our class was accelerated) and are currently doing statistics which I loathe. And then we will be doing algebra.

Do Olympiad Problems…
