well, if you take physics here....you know the rest.

while posting on CC.

Nah. At that point I generally just sit and stare at whatever I'm supposed to be studying/writing and think of how horribly it would effect me if I just went to sleep.

But the moments/hours/decades of procrastination proceeding the meltdown? Totally.

hmm i got a lot of reading done during the middle of summer...around 7 books, all john grisham of course. i received all these public policy books from my cousin that looked interesting..i feel pretty guilty because i havent opened one of them yet and theyre just rotting next to my bed.
btw, this summer i received the best dvd in the world. the lakers dynasty dvd...watching the countless generations of lakers teams winning games is awesome.

do you watch espn classic? i used to watch larry bird and magic

dude the 80s was time to be watching basketball. a lot of people dont realize how good bird and magic really were....if i had to make an all-nba first team for all of basketball history, magic would be my starting pg and bird would be my starting sf...they did whatever they had to do to help their team win.

id take lebron at SF. ima scared at this guys potential. bird had guts and the cleanest shot but lebron might be the next coming of jordan. bird could never understand lebrons speed and stength and he is only 21. bird was also helped by McHale, parish, Archibald, ainge, walton. maybe id take oscar robertson at PG as well. or smush "where'd nash go" parker lol

This thread officially makes no sense to me anymore...Maybe I should start speaking in fangirl to try and balance things out...

Does. not. compute.

LeBronze James over Larry Bird??? Bwahahaha yea right. Larry Legend made a career of destorying guys with 5 times his athleticism, Lebron would be no different.

larry bird is larry bird. im a biggg laker fan and i have so much respect for that dude.
my starting 5:
pg-magic
sg-mj
sf-bird
pf-duncan
c-russel

bench
pg-oscar
sg-kobe
sf-pippen (this guy is a crazy defender)
pf-malone
c-wilt

theres soo many players i left out...but yeah these are my basic lineups for explosive and effective coaches.

funnyman, how is your classes? did you like the results of your midterms?

i'm having my first taste of "defeat" b/c I NEVER got below an A- in any class my entire life, and i just got a B on my UCLA summer session midterm. although last year i got an A in a summer session class.. goes to show UCLA is much harder than HS nonetheless

isn't there a middle ground? between "wow my summer is boring" and "holy shiet life is hell"? there's gotta be some place in the middle, like "wow I love UCLA because I'm learning and having a dandy time". haha.

^ you could've been the one sigh

im in a good mood today. i feel like i really helped the kids i tutored today a lot. the most gratifying feeling in the world is when you feel you made a difference. my 10th grade student mastered derivatives and my 4th grade student mastered the 8 sentence paragraph, all under my guidance. woo hoooo!!!!! :)

Ricepudding- sure, there's middle ground. And lots of the time it's "I love ucla because I'm learning and blah blah blah" (those times are generally the days when you only have lecture and no homework and no tests for weeks. So uh. 1st week). But right now people are chomping at the bit to get the classes started already and I'm just reminding them to be careful with the wishes. Cuz yknow. While UCLA is fun and great and sunshine and rainbows and candy and puppies and chocolate cake, it's also school, and school is hard. And stressful. And they might be wishing it was still July when it's December 10 and they're in the midst of finals hell.

'Tis all.

Allie, does anybody go to UCLA for the love of learning? Everyone bruin I meet is extriniscally motviated about "getting good grades = more money". You gotta go to small liberal arts to find people who go to school because they love it.

Sure, I like history and politics, and genuinely enjoy the material.

But you mean to tell me that you will take a class and forget about the grade? meaning, if you don't do so well but learn a lot, you will be satisfied?

There are boatloads of grade mongers at UCLA, true. But I don't think it's fair to say that everyone, or even the majority, only go to school to get good grades to get good jobs. I've said before that I think it's important to consider your career path while at school, but I don't think it should be obsessed over. I genuinely like my classes and can always find something interesting, even in the crappy ones with boring teachers that I have to take to fulfill requirements. I'm a comm major, and while I think a lot of what we talk about is applicable to life outside of school, some of it is remarkably trivial. But it's fun, and I like trivia, so whatever. So yeah, while I've had days where I left feeling like my time was somewhat wasted, most of the time I'm really stoked about class. Even if we talked about Disneyland for an hour and watched 15 minutes of Southpark.

Anyways. So yes. I don't think I'd do as well if I weren't at school to learn first and foremost. I have friends who are very, very passionate about their educations and have discussions about stuff in their lectures and really make an effort to make the most of their time here intellectually. I also know people who think beer pong is the most exciting thing ever omg and whatever, that's fine I guess. But I'd really much rather hang out with the smart kids. They're more fun in the long run.

Allie, what will you do with a degree in comm?
